I used to have interesting hobbies, but then I discovered Mudcat...I do leatherwork, costuming, marlinspike work, sailing and music, with a little gardening on the side when I have time. I also do Renaissance and Dickens Faires, and probably any other sort of re-enacting that comes my way. And of course music. I have just aquired a lute-backed guitar to use at Renaissance Faires, so there are two intersecting.

I thought there would be more winemakers and brewers like me out there. My garden is getting a bit specialised. My motto is "if you can't ferment it there's no point in growing it.
I don't run but can do several variations on the fallig and crawling theme. After all why walk when you can crawl?

Mudcat, music, Ren faires, I make chainmail & and chainmail jewelry, Photography, biking, sketching, Role playing games, watching F1, making origami boulders, sitting in the shade of an old oak with a cold glass of lemonade is a lot of fun, making new friends, and generally making people think.

I reckon it's a Government inspired rake-off on houses of ill-repute... There is a Tax inspector whose job it is to go and take those cards from the insides of phone boxes, ring them up and ask for a tax return... they can't deny they are working, but hey, what a job!!!

My hobbies are numerous. I sew, embroider, garden, sing, collect dragons and green men, am learning to ride a motorbike, but at the moment my main one is smacking the terminal upside the screen because my Email server is playing up and I've had no mail for 3 days!!!!

Rich, I thought I was the only one who photographs doors! Do your nearest and dearest think you are barmy too? It's actually doors and door cases I go for. I used to make ships in bottles till a couple of years ago; thae last one broke inside the bottle after I'd glued it all up, and it wouldn't come out again! I was truying to be too delicate, I suppose ...

I did a leatherwork course years ago (my home town Walsall is the saddlery and lorinery centre of England; lost of folks in the US buy our Western saddles), but I never kept it up--shame, it's a great medium to work in. I spend most of my sare time practicing my instruments now, though you might not tink so to hear me play!

Up until recently, when I moved and had no garage, I was into antique automobiles. I just sold a 1950 Willys Jeepster touring car. Before that, I had a 1939 Packard. other than that, I have Mudcat, making music, flea markets and yard sales. I thought of chasing women, but, I'm afraid one of them might catch me.

I dig up lost dog bones much to the delight of Zero our geriatric Lab who shit on the backseat of Maggie's car last night. Bad Dog! I also spend my summers digging up other artifacts from the past which end up in the Maine State Museum. I am an obsesive compulsive type like my friends that also do this for a hobby or a real lowpaying thankless job.

The COD defines Carboy and Demi-John so closely together, that the difference doesn't matter...;^)

I think of a Carboy as containing a noxious laboratory chemical, while a Demi-John is filled with .... Whisky... Alas I only have a Bottle of the latter to hand...;(

I like to forage for and cook with wild edible plants and mushrooms....photograph wildflowers....collect natural history facts and folklore....hike....backpack...canoe....mountain bike...skinny dip....make home brew....make dandelion wine....build musical instruments....and play music and sing.

Hmmm, what're me interestin' pastimes? Well, there's the tortoises I adopt or find homes for; the green iguanas I raise; the orchids I try to keep alive(so far so good, lotsa blooms!); picking up pieces of rocks that are left over from my golden retrievers' daily tooth-cleaning sessions(not to mention coconut shells & other assorted hard things they find & chew up); keeping tabs on which fish are having babies in which fish tank in which room in da house; trying to outswim various sharks & other assorted marine life whilst taking a peek at their underwater world...oh yeah, can't forget playing guitar & singing base/tenor in a church choir, wildlife photography, hiking, moutain biking, reading sci-fi/fantasy, model building(also have the Enterprise 1701-D suspended from the ceiling), cooking, and landscaping/maintenance(hey, YOU try keeping a half acre of tropical fruit trees from turning into a jungle...)...

Pergamano (hand embossing parchment paper and pricking and cutting the edges, to create decorative cards which look like lace - sounds boring when yu put it like that!)
Riding motorbikes
Photography - nature and landscape and portraits - oh, and architecture!

I collect musical instruments that are beyond repair, but look interesting. I'd like to get a collection of playable but pointless instruments like the Ukelin, Hawaiian Tremeloa, or other zitheresque instruments, all of which seem to have been manufactured in New Jersey. I also collect illustrated Victorian adventure novels. My favorite thing to collect is postcards that say "Greetings From..." and then the name of the place in large letters with pictures of the place inside the letters. Especially towns that seem to be too insignificant to merit having postcards.

In between being a Mom, singing (which takes up a lot of my weekends), holding down a "real" job, and household day to day stuff I am lucky to get 5 hours of sleep a night. I haven't watched TV in more than a year (which, as I see it, is one of the perks).

I remember when though. I used to like to do caligraphy, sketch, horseback ride, skate, and go unusual places on the spur of the moment.

Unusual for me these days is the grocery store! ;D

I used to be a speed skater and a sky diver, but two broken legs, a broken arm and several cracked ribs have made me stop - especially the cracked ribs, they are most painful. Now I am making sculptures out of natural materials which is very safer. Kjell

I like sewing - I make most of my own clothes including the Scarlett O'Hara-style ball gowns I wear for colonial dancing - now that's real fantasy stuff. And patchwork and quilting too. Cutting up perfectly good fabric and sewing it back together again is probably no worse than cutting up perfectly good trees to make furniture or musical instruments, when you think of it! And playing guitar and singing too.

I collect whenever and however financially possible old books on Boxing (up to about 1955/Rock Marciano) if there's a bloke with a fancy waistcoat and McGuinn glasses out there who has a choaotic secondhand bookshop in Southsea, did you find me the Max Baer book ?? It's only been about five years and I did give you my address.!! also Jazz and Blues, most recently "King of the Delta Blues" about Charlie Patton.
