I'm in Dublin for a few days and want to find a pub or two that will have traditional Irish music June 15th and 16th.

Thanks in advance!

Can't remember the names of them all but we were in Dublin a while ago and it was only a matter of looking around the city centre - many pubs advertise "what's on" and if you just get talking to folk around and about, someone is sure to give you a list longer than you can manage in a couple of days. Beware, though, we found that if you don't arrive till late, you'll barely get through the doors! We also found that the songs wanted most by the audience tended to be refused - I guess the requests are much the same week-in week-out and the singers get tired of them. Have a great time - we did!

Maureen, don't mess around - time is of the essence. You must head straight for Hughes' bar in Chancery Place (right behind the Four Courts) or the Cobblestones in Smithfield Market.

Give Temple Bar a wide beth until you've got more time to spare and can make your own judgments. Several bars in this area are little better than tourist traps. They hire in musicians to create the right atmosphere, but there is nothing homespun or spontaneous about the entertainment on offer.

Look out for the Brazen Head on a Sunday.. 11 years ago they had music all day (it closed and opened 3 times and we didn't notice) with a folk club in the evening. Oldest pub in Dublin, just down the road from St Patricks' Cathedral.

O'Donoghue's in Lower Baggott Street. The other thing to do is buy a copy of Irish Music magazine and they list sessions all over Ireland. In fact you should subscribe to Irish Music magaine - a fine publication!
