Anyone know all the lyrics to "Fare Thee Well" by Bob Dylan? I can remember about half of them, including the chorus:

From memory, wasn't that his version of Leaving of Liverpool? With just the Liverpool left out. I have it at home, in the Bob Dylan Songbook, but will have to wait before I can post it.

I only know the verses that Judy Collins sang, which are in The Judy Collins Songbook, which of course you all have. All my music books are packed away from my recent move. As best I can recall, they are:

Hey, the old brain cells can still do it, eh? Except for "The weather is against me and the wind blows hard".

For some inexplicable reason, this song is in the DT as "Leaving Liverpool, new version". I had the devil of a time trying to find it. The original is not listed as "Leaving of Liverpool" but "Leaving Liverpool", so when I entered "Leaving of Liverpool" into the search box, nothing came up. When Dick and Susan and whoelseever continue their monumental and thankless task of updating and correcting the DT, this one should be given the correct title, "Farewell". And I think Max said the search engine was going to be improved to do "fuzzy" searches, which will help too.

Not that I'm complaining!....I'm amazed at how comprehensive that collection is and how well the SuperSearch generally works.

Thanks, everybody. I could remember about 60 percent of the lyrics, including, "The weather is against me and the wind blows hard, ... " but not the rest. I always liked the song, and it's good to have my memory refreshed.

Allan McLeod told of singing Leaving (of) Liverpool as featured singer at a folk club in England. Bob Dylan came up and asked for the words afterwards, which Allan wrote out. My joke is that he wrote his own words to it because he couldn't read Allan's handwriting! (But Allan's handwriting is quite neat.)

The song is named "Farewell" on Dylan's and Collin's recordings. After writing the above, I was wondering if the times fit. I find this in an unimpeachable source, Wikipedia: "He first played it for friends in Greenwich Village after returning from a two-week trip to London in early January 1963." (There is a citation.)
