Subject: Lyr. Req. FREEBORN MAN (Not the Bluegras From: Zorro Date: 19 Sep 01 - 09:17 AM I just bought a cd for one song: Freeborn Man, and have worn out my head phones trying to get the lyrics. A beautiful song about an Irish patriot. The album is The Leaving of Ireland. I believe the singer is Deirdre' Starr. (The crib notes are not reader friendly) Can anyone help with the lyrics?? Thanks, Z |

Subject: Lyr Add: FREEBORN MAN (Irish) From: Zorro Date: 19 Sep 01 - 12:33 PM Nope that's not the one> This is what I got from listening to it many times.:: Freeborn Man Twas the dark of his eyes that beguiled of my heart As we lay in the stable so bare A young servant girl, he the Lord of the land As I gazed onto his face so fair. Such a love that we knew would tear out your heart, Thou' we knew it never could be For twas Ireland he loved far more than his life And to fight for the brave and the free. In the morning he rose and away he did ride, With a kiss for a fond farewell. And a promise to return at the rising of the moon, To the land that he loved so well. And I saw in his eyes, the fire of his soul And I feared for the future to be In my heart then I knew, I would see him no more For he died for the brave and the free. Now the child at my breast is a patriot's son. From a love that never will end, For it's not about power, money or greed. Or the truth that for England will fend. And some day in his youth he will take up the call, For a free born man is he. And his heart will be wrapped in it's mantle so green, And he'll fight or the brave and the free. I think this is correct, or close. It's a really beautiful song, words and melody. If you (or anyone) can correct my mistakes I'd be grateful. Thanks, |
Subject: RE: Lyr. Req. FREEBORN MAN (Not the Bluegras From: Sorcha Date: 19 Sep 01 - 12:41 PM Still nothing with Google. I found a couple of Dierdre Starr pages, but no lyrics. Sorry, it does sound a beautiful song. |
Subject: Lyr Add: FREEBORN MAN (Jon Mark) From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Nov 02 - 02:34 AM FREEBORN MAN © 1999 Jon Mark 1. T'was the dark of his eyes that beguiled of my heart As we lay in the stable so bare A young servant girl, he, the Lord of the land As I gazed on his face so fair Such a love that we knew would tear at your heart Though we knew that it never could be For t'was Ireland he loved far more than his life And to fight for the brave and the free 2. In the morning he rose and away he did ride With a kiss for a fond farewell And a promise to return at the rising of the moon To the lands that he loved so well And I saw in his eyes the fire of his soul And I feared for the future to be In my heart then I knew I would see him no more For he'd die for the brave and the free 3. Now the child at my breast is a patriot's son From a line that never will end For it's not about power money or greed Or the troops that the English will send And some day in his youth he will take up the cause For a free-borne man is he And his heart will be wrapped in her mantle so green And he'll fight for the brave and the free It's on an album called The Leaving of Ireland, but Jon Mark and David Anthony Clark, with vocals by Diedre Starr. More information about the album on this page, which links to a PDF file of the lyrics that I pasted above. Looks like Zorro did a good transcription, but there are a few differences. I've heard the song - it's a good one. -Joe Offer- |
