Sunday, October 7, Les Barker, a comic poet from Manchester, England, will be performing at a house concert in NE Portland! Stephen Wright meets Monty Python...

Les also is a renowned writer of serious and parody songs, recorded by such luminaries of the British Folk Scene as Martin and Eliza Carthy, June Tabor, Martin Simpson and more. Sunday he'll be reading from his vast repertoire of poems, which include "An Infinite Number Of Occasional Tables," "Deja Vu," and "My Snails Have Not Yet Arrived." Large audiences at folk festivals groan along on the refrains...

It was a delightful evening, and I did laugh myself silly, tho I laughed the hardest when-- as you led us inexorably toward that much anticipated punchline in Robert the Phoenix -that woman asked you for her ten dollar admission fee back.

I suppose it's too much to hope that he'll still be in Seattle when I'm there the weekend of November 10th. Sigh.... And I suppose a house concert on the Big Island of Hawaii -- or even the fleshpots of Honolulu -- is out of the question.
