Subject: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 09 Oct 01 - 11:27 PM Due to popular demand, I'm posting a PRELIMINARY list of Getaway events on our web site. As of right now, The list is here This list is so very preliminary, that I haven't informed some of the leaders of everything I plan to have them do :-) ... Dick G, would you pretty please co-lead Parodies with Micca (he and Jeri say you know dozens of 'em); Jim Bunch, would you pretty please co-lead Scary Stories with Dani (you did offer, you know...); and Barry, would you pretty please co-lead Shanties with Jeri? There. That should do it....:-) The actual time and place of workshops has not been set up yet, and there are possibly more sessions coming, depending on how much room we have. To be continued.... |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: dick greenhaus Date: 09 Oct 01 - 11:49 PM Sure. Whatever. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GUEST,karen k Date: 10 Oct 01 - 12:30 AM Thanks Rita, this is a great help. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Dani Date: 10 Oct 01 - 08:21 AM oh BOY!!! Now, these are going to be scheduled one-right-after-another so we don't have to miss any, right? Rita, you're an awesome woman. Dani
|
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: MMario Date: 10 Oct 01 - 08:47 AM wow. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 10 Oct 01 - 09:01 AM I'd personally feel more comfortable with "Barry, would you lead the Shanty session/workshop with Jeri as helper?" I know a few shanties, but my knowledge about the songs and the work is virtually non-existant compared to what Barry knows. I'll try to know more before the Getaway, but I still won't even be close to Barry's level of expertise. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GutBucketeer Date: 10 Oct 01 - 09:25 AM Sounds good to me! I have plenty of scary stories. MMM now let's see... There is the one about growing up, becoming a parent, having kids.... homework.... soccer.... scouts.. BILLS, BILLS, BILLS AAAAAAHHHHHAAAAAHHHHHA! Will the scary stories be around the campfire? JAB |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Dani Date: 10 Oct 01 - 09:34 AM ....unless you can think of a scarier place........ Remember that feeling of your front being warm and toasty, with a bright fire to cheer your eyes.... but behind you, it's cold and it's dark, and you can't see what's in the trees, and that little rustle MIGHT be a breeze blowing the leaves. It MIGHT be... Let's huddle in a little closer just in case. Dani |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: JedMarum Date: 10 Oct 01 - 09:35 AM Rita - I see from the list posted you have me tasked with a "Finger Picking Styles" workshop. You had previously asked me to co-present with Rick a workshop on "Instrumental Styles." Which shall I be doing? I'm OK with either, but just wish to be prepared. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Fortunato Date: 10 Oct 01 - 10:23 AM Thanks, Rita, lotso good stuff. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 10 Oct 01 - 01:47 PM As I just told Jed in an e-mail, I threw up this list last night just so people can start preparing songs, etc. so there are a few details to be worked out.... I intend to update it frequently. [Operative word is "intend."] There will be changes. Jeri, Haven't talked to Barry but I'm sure that is fine. What I envision you doing, is calling on people and helping to keep the energy very positive. Barry and various other attendees will add authenticity. Everybody note: Sea Songs at the Getaway is a very loose category. Not just shanties. I sang a ballad once, there are lots of other songs that were sung by sailors that aren't quite shanties, and some good singer-songwriter stuff too.
|
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 10 Oct 01 - 02:43 PM Look around your house for "flea marketable" stuff to donate to the Silent Auction. Last year we brought in over $300 for the Getaway Scholarship Fund. Lots of it was stuff that was headed for a yard sale anyway.... and some of it was genuine treasures that people "fought over." I'm planning to donate one or more of my woodburned necklaces. Brand new, not yard sale.... Sad to say, Pam Swan can't make it this year because of a family commitment, and the Milners can't make it because they're too darned popular (it's one of their busiest weekends of the year). |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: MMario Date: 10 Oct 01 - 02:55 PM I am thinking about donating a crocheted shawl - but not sure I will finish it in time. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: SINSULL Date: 10 Oct 01 - 04:10 PM Really, MMario? HEH HEH HEH There are still a few ladies not on speaking terms with me for outbidding them on the last one. Have to look around here and see what turns up. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Dani Date: 10 Oct 01 - 05:01 PM And by the way, who's that "Rick" guy? Dani |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 10 Oct 01 - 05:11 PM Some Canadian guy who's gonna get jacked up at the border for trying to drive across with 3 guitars, a banjo, a fiddle, a mandolin, a tipple and a rosewood kazoo. Who's in charge of the marshmallows, Dani? |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Barry Finn Date: 10 Oct 01 - 06:03 PM Aw Jeri you're too humble, I'd be happy to add some back up for ya. Barry |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Dani Date: 10 Oct 01 - 06:29 PM If we ALL bring 'em, there might be enough. Chocolate to melt on them I will NOT bring, because it would get eaten between NC and MD. Maybe Uncle Joe will bring some on the plane from CA? He's a major campfire dude. And Jeri, I'm bringing a fiddle player with me, and she's afraid there'll be too much singing and not enough music. You do a little of that, don't you? Dani |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 10 Oct 01 - 06:38 PM "Back up," my butt!! Er, strike that. Ferrara told me I was helping YOU! (Aw, who cares - it's gonna be fun.) |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 10 Oct 01 - 06:45 PM Dani, yep. I also see there's a dance scheduled, and I wonder who's playing for it... |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Nancy King Date: 10 Oct 01 - 07:39 PM Rita, that looks fantastic! Gonna be some tough choices, though. Remember to take your vitamins, folks! Dick Greenhaus -- hope you'll bring along some Mudcat patches. I need another one! Looking forward to seeing everybody -- Cheers, Nancy |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Bill D Date: 10 Oct 01 - 10:24 PM ....and at 2AM Sat, we have "Songs of Dyslexic Misanthropes" overlapping "Fiddle Tunes played entirely on the G string"....followed by "Druid Madrigals" at 3... Sleep is for sissies!! |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Big Mick Date: 10 Oct 01 - 10:50 PM I am bringing Guinness for the Saturday night "Misanthropes" singaround. Those of you who were there last year may recall that Milner and I drank copious amounts of the vile black stuff. It gave such a nice jolt to our singing that we ended up doing Pointer Sister melodies and dance steps to the various and sundry shanties, ballads, etc that were being sung...........wonderful stuff, that Guinness........bollocks...........Dan isn't going to make it this year...........Finn........Marum........Corlew.......Fielding..........you are going to have to fill in.......... I can't wait, Mick |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: JedMarum Date: 11 Oct 01 - 12:13 AM LOL, Mick. I'll do my best. I can manage some Pointer Sisters and maybe even the dance steps, but I'm afraid I can't touch a drop of the vile black stuff (mother's milk, as my friend Karen calls it). I have a liver issue that prevents me from drinking (more's the pity) still, I can enjoy drinking through your pleasure of it! We're off to a few MO and AR dates tomorrow ... so I'll not be back to Mudcat before Tues. I look forward to teh FSGW weekend, meeting all my Mudcat friends in the 3D world, and seeig a few old faces as well! |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Bill D Date: 11 Oct 01 - 12:22 PM for those who are attending for the first time...this thread on memories of Getaway 2000 might be enlightening...or scary, depending on your attitude...*grin*....(allusions to the "bench moving shanty" will mean little to those who don't stay up that late) |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Bill D Date: 11 Oct 01 - 12:44 PM and, suprise...last year's photos are still there at Photoloft ....I thought that free space was going to be deleted, but maybe I just can't put MORE up..*shrug*...anyway, for those who want previews of the camp and many of the people, there you go! (there are other sets of pics on that page, too...some 'folk related'...some not....) |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GUEST,Tinker Date: 11 Oct 01 - 01:48 PM I can't wait. I've set up the schedule for the home front, got a confirmation email today, and now I've got this wonderful list to sort through..... Tinker |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GUEST,Uilleand Date: 12 Oct 01 - 11:27 AM I hope everyone will sing a song for me, because I'm really going to miss this year's getaway. Anyone know, if there are any mudcatters here in Limerick? Shana- Out of sight, but not off the planet. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Fortunato Date: 12 Oct 01 - 11:34 AM what sort of song would you like, Shana? |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GUEST,Uilleand Date: 12 Oct 01 - 11:36 AM A humorous one would be nice, and then let me know which one you did. :) |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: SINSULL Date: 12 Oct 01 - 11:40 AM I will bring some NYC/WTC T-Shirts for the auction if it is appropriate. Also some small gift items from a local shop. The young woman who owns it lost her husband, a fireman, September 11.We are all buying to support her financially and emotionally. Too much of a "downer"? |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: kendall Date: 12 Oct 01 - 12:37 PM Did you have to call it "Hanging out with Kendall Morse"? can you guess what Spaw will do with that? |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GutBucketeer Date: 12 Oct 01 - 12:57 PM Tinker! I was hoping you'd be coming. I (we) are looking forward to hearing about the speakeasy in your basement. Have you learned any speakeasy songs to go with it? JAB |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 12 Oct 01 - 01:01 PM Sinsull, Please do bring the things you mentioned for the Silent Auction. I hope (probably in vain) that we'll be able to avoid any intense political wrangling at the Getaway. That said, I believe strongly in doing as much as possible to honor and remember the dead and the bereaved in this tragedy. We would love to have your mementoes in the auction. (My opinion only... haven't talked to the management ... not sure we have any management ... just good friends doing stuff as a team with Charlie Baum as head honcho which means he gets to do the hardest stuff....) Uilleand, the Getaway is going to miss you too! (No International Songs session this year ... sigh ...) And I miss you anyway. Best to all, Rita ps Will make a few corrections to the list of workshops and post NLT tomorrow. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: kendall Date: 12 Oct 01 - 01:18 PM I'm willing to take the pledge...no political rows. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Fortunato Date: 12 Oct 01 - 01:50 PM Rita, due to popular demand, we can schedule the "Help I'm Lost Please Direct Me to 1935" Workshop for Sunday at 1:00pm if it suits your grid. The Jazz/Swing/Tin Pan Alley contingent is vocal and demanding, but hey, they show up, play good and bring their own libations. Regards, Chance. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 14 Oct 01 - 02:52 PM THE SCHEDULE GRID IS UP AND RUNNING! -- Same location as the preliminary list, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA .... I DID ITTTTT .... Oh i am so glad that's done..... Now. If I misspelled your name, put your workshop in an impossible time or against something you really want to attend, used your name in vain on a workshop you really don't want to lead, or FORGOT to list your workshop, PLEASE let me know and I'll do my very best to fix it. If I created impossible quandaries for people by scheduling two (or even three) of their favorite sessions at the same time, please also let me know. .... Whether or not it gets fixed, will depend on how many complaints I get (and how nicely they are phrased....) as well as how impossible my schedule is for the rest of the week; so don't hesitate to contact me about any problems you have. People making UN-nice comments will be fed a large helping of moose turd pie and nominated for 2002 program chair.... See you all very soon :-) Rita |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Bill D Date: 14 Oct 01 - 03:16 PM ...gee, she's MUCH easier to talk to now that that's up..*grin*....and you can bet **I** never said anything critical as I looked over her shoulder. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Dani Date: 14 Oct 01 - 03:30 PM Hmmmm. How do I say this nicely? You're wonderful! Now......My $.02: "What I learned from Folk-Legacy" is terrific AND important. But missing "Barry and Jeri's Sea and Shanties" would be very difficult. This is too tough a choice to leave up to us. Do we have to actually schedule TIME for meals? We'd fit more stuff in if we just left a plate of sandwiches and a pot of coffee out! Dani |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Dani Date: 14 Oct 01 - 03:36 PM MY GOD!! And that was only when I printed it out the WRONG way! When I printed it out the RIGHT way, in Landscape format, it gets even BETTER! I mean, worse. I mean..... can't we go to four days??? Dani |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 14 Oct 01 - 04:15 PM Wonderful, Rita!!! I just wish I could make it to "What I Learned From Folk Legacy." Is there anyone who DOESN'T want to be at that workshop?! WAAAAAAAA!!! There's a few spots on the schedule where I want to be in at least 2 places at once. It's the sign of good program, and I can't complain about the scheduling. I can whine - just not complain. And Finn has top billing for the Sea & Shanties workshop, which means he's in charge! Barry, I'll PM you to see if you want to plan anything, or just wing it. Point of pendantacism: Maxie's a Spiegel, not a Siegel. Thanks Rita - great job! |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Rick Fielding Date: 14 Oct 01 - 08:20 PM Wow! Looks good. I'd have Killed to see Sandy and Caroline's concert, which happens during Jed and my workshop, but what the hey! Thanks for all the hard work. I've had the task of scheduling something like that quite a few times and it never gets easier. Rick |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Big Mick Date: 14 Oct 01 - 08:37 PM Yeah, Rick....I am up agin ole Kendall, whom I really wanted to see and hear. But as we can see from the posts, there is no way to make it right for all of us. I am tickled to death with the excellent job our dear Rita has done. Leave it as it is, dearie, and take a well deserved bow. Mick |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 14 Oct 01 - 08:56 PM Kendall, do you have a trenchcoat? |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Bill D Date: 14 Oct 01 - 08:57 PM well, I hear from my better half that she is planning a late night tweaking the schedule a bit....*grin*...so 'some' of those concerns may be addressed....(shoot, we got ummmm....hours yet ...before it is all cast in stone) can the good get better?...maybe |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 14 Oct 01 - 09:16 PM Actually, kids, I'll do what I can. I took the schedule, and Dani's comment, to Jennifer's B'day party... a lot of the Usual Suspects were there.... Including Kathy Westra. They all agree that I MUST find a way to get Folk Legacy and Shanties into different time slots. So that will be my second-to-next project, after I make a few important (but non-Getaway) phone calls this evening. This is exactly the kind of feedback I need, BTW, thank you all. ... and keep the comments coming, as new people read the post. One reason I posted the schedule was so people can provide feedback. In fact I may wait a bit to make the final changes. Rita |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 14 Oct 01 - 09:32 PM THANK YOU!!! (And Happy Birthday to Jennifer/Knitpick!) |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 14 Oct 01 - 11:03 PM Well, this isn't about the schedule. Over the last few years, a sort of Getaway Marketplace has grown up, helped along by the presence of Folk Legacy and Camsco Records. This year Bill D and I are going to bring some of our woodcraft for sale. There are tables in the room between the Dining Hall and the TV room (the one where the Bench Shanty took place, for those who were there....) I checked with Charlie and he says he would be pleased to see a kind of community marketplace develop in that area. So if you want to bring your CD's or crafts, or reasonable amounts of other folk related stuff for sale, and set it out in that room, you may. There WON'T be anybody there to watch over it, buyers and sellers will just have to find each other during the weekend. Total honor system. But you can have a sheet there, for people to write a note if they're interested in buying something. We all wear name tags (when we remember, and didn't leave them pinned in our other clothes) so it's not too hard to find folks. NEW SUBJECT: If we can find a room that works, we'll try to set up a Listening Room where people can hear a bit of various recordings before they buy, or just sit and listen to some of Dick's and Sandy's fantastic music collections. |

Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: MMario Date: 15 Oct 01 - 04:05 PM the thudding sound you may hear the next few days will be me kicking myself - as a *lot* of the stuff I would like to be at is scheduled saturday - and I have committed to being elsewhere most of the daytime hours saturday. *sigh* I have only myself to blame - trying to fit too much into the same weekend. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: kendall Date: 15 Oct 01 - 04:47 PM Sorry Jeri, the trench coat was confiscated by Customs in London. Why do you ask? |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Allan C. Date: 15 Oct 01 - 04:52 PM To which "elsewhere" do you refer, Mario? Surely you aren't saying that you won't be coming to the Getaway! If so, bend over and let medo some kicking. Tell me I don't have to come up there. Tell me. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Bill D Date: 15 Oct 01 - 06:25 PM "committed"?? "elsewhere"??...'round these parts, Podner, we commit TO the Getaway....couldn't be some RenFaire happening nearby, could there? *knowing wink* |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: SINSULL Date: 15 Oct 01 - 07:28 PM MMario - Feign illness. Or if you like we will damage you just enough to avoid lying. OK? |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 15 Oct 01 - 08:28 PM fortunato, HAVE YOU REGISTERED YET? |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GUEST,Gorgeous Gary Date: 15 Oct 01 - 10:43 PM Hi everyone! Looking forward to seeing y'all at the Getaway...especially now that many of you know I lurk here since Charlie "unmasked" me at the Saturday concert last year ;-) I'll be making my debut leading the Jewish Songs workshop on Sunday. Stop by! (And see my questions posted elsewhere...) Counting down the last days... -- Gary |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 16 Oct 01 - 06:13 AM Okay, I think I made all the requested changes (even the one that arrived by carrier pigeon) without introducing any major problems. Check me on this, however.... I'm going to try to put in a blue clicky without Bill D standing here helping me. If it's just a mess, you can use the earlier ones: Let me know how it looks.... |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GUEST Date: 16 Oct 01 - 08:16 AM sorry, Page unavailable. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Allan C. Date: 16 Oct 01 - 08:20 AM Try again or possibly use a different browser, GUEST. It worked for me. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Fortunato Date: 16 Oct 01 - 08:58 AM Ferrara, we are going to be "Day" people. We are staying in a nearby motel and will be eating out or picnicing. But we will be potlucking with Micca and you on Friday. I hope thats ok. We just can't settle down who's going to miss which sports game and whose friend is coming and when Matt and my grandson will arrive. It was too complicated to think about. Unless I am mistaken we don't have to register as Day people since we will be taking no meals or staying in cabins. I know we'll miss some moments, but... OK? regards, Fortunato. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: MMario Date: 16 Oct 01 - 09:44 AM Allan (and others) - I am assuredly coming to the getaway - I will be there friday, friday night, saturday evening and night, sunday, sunday night. However, if I do NOT make an appearance at a certain performance of Commedia dell'arte; and a certain performance of "Taming of the Shrew" my life will be hell for the next twelve months - not to mention my love life cursed. (it's *not good* to get the afr goddess of love mad at you) And my love life is in sad enough shape as it is! Plus a certain pyrate has promised to sing a song for me, and I intend to collect! and yes, it's a ren-faire. My only excuse is that they have yet to start any 12 step programs for ren-faire addicts - (though our belief is it would take at least 24 steps anyway) |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: SINSULL Date: 16 Oct 01 - 09:58 AM Sunday AM I have to be in four places at once! Damn! |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Allan C. Date: 16 Oct 01 - 10:01 AM Oh, Mario, this is great news. 'Sides, I didn't want to have to come up there and hurt you. *EG* |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GUEST,Barry Finn from work Date: 16 Oct 01 - 11:14 AM Hi Ferrara GREAT JOB job & thanks for the changes, I guess Jeri would've feign some sort of accident to leave the shanty workshop early to make it across the street only to find me there in hiding. Hi Kendall, so nice to see you've made it back & I hear tell in such good form too. If you're still gonna do your workshop, I was hoping that you'd let me sell ice cream from the side line, there's a Sunday kickback in it for ya.
Hi Jeri |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Fortunato Date: 16 Oct 01 - 12:01 PM Looks, good, Rita. Thanks. I have to figure out if I can hang around to pick a dab with Rick and Jed. Thanks for all your hard work. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Noreen Date: 16 Oct 01 - 01:15 PM Looks such fun, wish I was going! Noreen Wondering what goes on at a Swashbucking workshop... :0) |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GutBucketeer Date: 16 Oct 01 - 01:37 PM Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. JAB |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Bill D Date: 16 Oct 01 - 02:32 PM Noreen...it's the late night swashUNbuckling sessions that are the most fun...;>]] boy, I'll confess, I can't figger out how to be at everything....but, then, I've been trying for 23 years, and have sure found some good ones anyway....I suppose I'll manage this year too. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Rick Fielding Date: 16 Oct 01 - 02:47 PM Jed and I will be doing our workshop nude! Oh shit, if Max and Mick follow suit we'll lose EVERYBODY! Rick |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Noreen Date: 16 Oct 01 - 02:52 PM *grin* I knew about buckling swashes, not learned how to buck them though... |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Fortunato Date: 16 Oct 01 - 02:53 PM Ah Ahhhh, Ricky, my boy, you've been reading those Camp Runnaked by laws again. This is not a public nudity weekend. What you and Jed do privately is your affair. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: MMario Date: 16 Oct 01 - 02:54 PM alison will be getting some great picture for the calendar tho'! |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Ferrara Date: 16 Oct 01 - 04:07 PM I did say "swashbucking," diddle I? Ah well. I'll probably get around to fixing it before I print out the programs.... My spouse has pointed out that I still have too many Mudcatter-led sessions scheduled against each other, especially Sunday afternoon. I replied, "That is indeed the case ... Good Though...." If this becomes a source of general grumbling (as opposed to one misguided individual's nitpicking) I'll see about changing it. Cheers and smiles (In only Two more evenings we'll be going to the Royal Mile sing!), Rita |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Kim C Date: 16 Oct 01 - 05:28 PM I am So Jealous! Wish I could come!!!! I have a gig though. which is a good thing.... but I still wish I could come!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 16 Oct 01 - 05:34 PM I figure I go to the "What Did You Learn From FL Workshop," hang around for a bit of Barry, run to see Rick and Jed hanging around, run to see how big Big Mick really is, then do the Sea & Shanties workshop with clothes on. I don't think shanties are a good thing to do naked, since various bits can get caught in the lines. So Barry, you can get one of your kids to fix your computer, eh? If your modem isn't screwed, it ought to be fixable... Oh, BTW - I don't have to be back on Tue to work. There was a miscommunication, and I'm done for a while as of now. I have a a car and a credit card, - LOOK OUT, WORLD! |

Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 16 Oct 01 - 09:33 PM Are Bill Sables and Sam Pirt still going to be there??? |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 16 Oct 01 - 09:42 PM Animaterra, Bill said a while ago that neither of them could make it. Micca's going to be the only person coming from the UK that I'm aware of. Think of it - Micca as UK embassador to the FSGW! |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Bill D Date: 16 Oct 01 - 10:07 PM don't let this get to the Queen.... (who knows, we might persuade him to STAY...I bought some potables today that speak well for the colonies!) |

Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Charlie Baum Date: 16 Oct 01 - 10:36 PM A reminder of things to bring to the Getaway-- A reusable coffee mug (cuts down on the number of disposable paper and styrofoam cups) Those warming bags that you heat up in the microwave for a minute or two and then put next to your body to keep warm. (There will be a microwave available in the dining room for this!) Heating pads and blankets. Weather forecast (as of Tuesday) calls for a beautiful weekend, no precipitation, daytime highs in the 60s and dropping to the mid-40s at the coldest part of the night. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GUEST,fortunato Date: 16 Oct 01 - 10:56 PM I believe Maggie and Derek Seed are also coming from the UK, although not mudcatters. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: SINSULL Date: 16 Oct 01 - 11:22 PM I will bring some fig leaves...or maple, I'm not sure. And a fan! |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 16 Oct 01 - 11:24 PM Fortunato, yeah - NOW I remember! I brought an extra blanket last year, and will probably do the same this year. If you're frozen, come see me. I miss Bert. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: GUEST,karen k Date: 17 Oct 01 - 12:15 AM Hey, Rita, Great job reorganizing. I like where you put the Folk-Legacy workshop. Also, thanks for putting so many of the ones I want to go to in the TV room thereby eliminating the trek to the gym. Great job!!!! Can't wait to get there Thursday. Alas, though I doubt if I'll be able to make it to the Royal Mile. I definitely would have liked to do that. See you Friday. Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! k |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Dani Date: 17 Oct 01 - 08:10 AM Nothing *I* like to put next to my body to keep warm fits in a microwave. Then again, neither would it fit into those teensy beds, either. Guess I'll come anyway.... Dani |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Noreen Date: 18 Oct 01 - 08:37 AM Thank you, Chance, I will be delighted to, if ever I get my finances sorted out (not feeling hopeful about that at this present moment, but, hey ho...) Bill, Micca would not appreciate those lovely beers at all (even the one that ages well...) so can I suggest he pass them on to me? I'd give them a very good home... :0* Have a wonderful time, all! Noreen |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Allan C. Date: 18 Oct 01 - 09:26 AM Dani, I'd be pleased to show you how to stack them. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: annamill Date: 18 Oct 01 - 09:26 AM So far.. we have Sinsull, Micca and Bert comin' over after the getaway. If anyone else would like to stop by, please just PM me or let us know at the Getaway. Everyone is welcome. (Jeri, we don't have the big couch this time, but we plan on getting another very soon) We only have one actual extra bed, but we have two blow up (ka-bamm!) beds and plenty of floor space. Love, Annamill |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Jeri Date: 18 Oct 01 - 11:41 AM I want to be at the Iron Hill show, but between Mon when I leave and Tue night is unplanned. Actually, where I'm sleeping between Sun night and when I get home is unplanned as well. I'll have a sleeping bag in my car, and floors are just fine. Annamill, be afraid! You might wind up with a convoy of cars following you home after the Getaway! Flashlights aren't really needed, but are useful for finding stuff in the cabin at night without turning all the lights on. And if I wind up sleeping somewhere that's light all the bloody time again this year - AAAARRRGGGHHH! (This is too much of a reminder of sleeping during daytime in a warehouse in Kuwait with a few hundred other people for several weeks and a T-shirt over my eyes because of the bright desert sun shining in through the windows. Makes me nuts. Makes me write really long run-on sentances, too.) Comfortable shoes are a must - lots of walking. And hills - I wonder if they've done anything about those pesky hills... Less than 24 hours until I leave!!! |

Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Allan C. Date: 18 Oct 01 - 05:12 PM Gee, Anna, I know what I meant by that. Now you've got me worried about what you meant. |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Bill D Date: 18 Oct 01 - 06:02 PM Hills?? there are no 'hills' at Camp Escher.... |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: Dani Date: 18 Oct 01 - 09:53 PM I'm not sure what you're stacking either, Allan. Guess we'll find out in..... 24! Dani |
Subject: RE: FSGW GETAWAY 2001 Workshops/Concerts From: annamill Date: 19 Oct 01 - 01:28 PM The "ooooo..I can't wait!" was referring to being at the Getaway. The stacking was from the old days when there were so many people at the gatherings we talked about stacking them up on the floor. Remember. Tee Hee.. L.A. |
