Shellbacks will be in America so we will just be able to enjoy the pubs without the hiking over to the Spa! |

Mick Haywood usualy kicks off the Captain Cook Festival at the Whitby Folk Club on Wednesday Night at the Plough Inn Baxtergate. Coblers Monday Picked up some posters and Hand Bills on Friday after we had performed in Middlesbough at Doctor Browns. The info had only just been printed that day. "No Comment!" Normer Waterson, Deric and Dorathy Elliot, Chris Parkinson, are on the programe. I havent got the full details as the programe that I put in my Guitar case I gave to someone at the Music Port Festival in Whitby last weekend! I intended to pick up another but I was distracted by the beer in the Tap N Spile on the Sunday Night. Others in Whitby have details as we did deliver leaflet's to First the Endevour on Church Street, Then the Captain Cook Museum ( Mick Green of Coblers Monday is the man to speak to there ) The Tourest Information Office in Whitby, Dorathy Elliot was putting up posters all over the place on Sunday Night. Should all else fail try the Coblers Monday Website via the Mudacat links page or http://uk.geocities.com/aaardvark001/. That will give you the email address for Coblers Monday where Mick Haywood who along with Angi his wife runn the Whitby Folk Club. OH AND THIS YEAR INSTEAD OF OR AS WELL AS YOU CAN HAVE A RIDE OUT ON THE MINI ENDEVOUR. WEATHER PERMITTING WHERE YOU CAN SINGALONG TO THE COBLERS MONDAY CD Whitby Cured. For vegetarians looking for meals in Whitby, the Magpie Cafe also has a vegetarian shepherd's pie that is worth the wait.Here's some advice on when to go to the Magpie to avoid the long lines: When it's closed.:-). What a great weekend in Whitby. I was in danger of losing my return ticket. Cookfest began the week before in Middlesbrough, then on to Marske and Staithes before Whitby. I was singing all that week with Richard Grainger and his group, The Stormy Weather Boys. Richard and Ian McNichol organized the fest so that it reached out into the communities. We sang in the church at Marske, in Cleveland hospital for patients and on the hospital's radio station, in a recreation hall, aboard the Endeavor at the Stockton quay, and at the Sunday night folk club at Dr. Brown's. Whitby was the perfect culmination of the fest. What a magical place. It was great finally meeting several 'Catters and connecting the people to they're names. A great bunch to meet up with, and I was only sorry there wasn't more time on my trip to talk with you more. Got to hear Noreen's rendition of Lowlands Away, which was soulful and moving. It was a pleasure getting adopted (or abducted) by the Shellbacks at Whitby, singing with them in the lifeboat and in the Pier Inn. Great meeting Ickle Dorritt and Michael in Swansea as well. So, Ickle, I didn't drink half as much as I should? Are you kidding? I drank enough water to fill an aquarium! :-) -chanteyranger |

It was a great weekend, and amazing finding out who all the Mudcatters are...I only knew you by your Mudcat names before. Singing on the old lifeboat was fantastic, but so was singing on the bandstand with people able to listen to us from the cliff....oh the power!!! Thanks to all of you for making it a fantastic weekend - roll on the next one (and we're definitely staying in the Endeavour again Noreen, I can recommend it!!) If anyone does want to join the Shellbacks let me know, as I've already got a few names to pass on to Mein Fuhrer (Derek). |

Whitby was fantasic and I have to agree with Noreen, singing shanties on the deck of the old lifeboat as we 'ploughed the raging seas' was a fantastic experience! Plus, raises the amouth we did for the lifeboats was quiet an achievement in it' self :-) Although I hope we didn't all scare chanteyranger off.... Edain |

We are true seafarers now, having sung shanties on the high seas (...and we're bound for South Australia... Really??) Shellbacks and friends singing in the bandstand to passers-by and gathering an audience all the way up the steps to the West Cliff! And The Sloop John B gets more complex every time we do it... Lovely to meet up with friends old and new. You shall be a Shellback, Mrs Duck! (A shellbacked duck??) We Know they left the Endevour together at the end of the evening (the bar was still open at this point!). Aaardvark and myself speculated that Denies (the Mayoress) may have chained him to her bed with the Maroral Chain of Office! When she appeared in the Endevour on Sunday Afternoon we confronted her. Deneis says that she has not seen him since! Should we belive her? It is the Goth weekend next week in Whitby! Ps Did I have a good time? I can't remmember things are still a bit hazy! |

Sang along with the Shellbacks at the bandstand (perhaps they'll let me join if I ask nicely) and had a good singaround in the Endeavour later. Even had a quick paddle. Didn't see Chanteyranger unfortunately but met plenty of other 'catters. Only regret we couldn't find any accomodation so had to leave around 9pm and drive home - sober!! |

But I can tell you that Coblers monday will be in the Endeavour to start the Whitby end of the festival at 20.00 hrs with Ol'Abel Parkin,Keepers Lock, Deric Gifford,Georges peoetry Unlimiter ,Coblers Monday amd Feet first. Some of the same artists will all so appear at the Pier Inn at 20.30 hrs. Mick Haywood will be at the helm in the Endeavour to introduce the guests.
