Yes Noreen, it's Ali, and I'm looking forward to the weekend. We should get off to a good start as we're staying at the Endeavour!!! See you all at the Tap and Spile then.

I do like Whitby, oh yes. Michael will be there but as Madam G said the Baggies will not. I've heard that Zorro isn't paying anyone this year, everyone's doing it for nothing, isn't that nice?
Looking forward to a tidy weekend finishing off with Sunday in the Tap, splendid evening.
I hope this year there aren't any floods. Last year took 17 hours to get home, it was worth it though.
See you soon

Mike

Don't be embarrassed Noreen ... I'm sure that Richard Grainger would be the first to admit that "efficient" and "organised" are words that, to him, are somewhat unfamiliar ....

As Whitby is such a lovely place I,m sure peolpe will enjoy themselves anyway.
If you haven't been before ...try this site

*embarrassed blush* ... so it is! Shame they haven't been so efficient this year- it's nice to know what's going on.

Yes Tyke will be there you are quite right Ickle Dorritt, What will the Captain Cook Sea Shanty Festival be Like? Well the first time I went I was Shang Hide into Coblers Monday. When sobered up the lads told me what a great weekend I had so I've been going ever since! The truth is the Captain Cook Festival will be what you make it! Please do not worry if you over indulge in Whitby's many great Pub once home and sober you will be able to read about what a great weekend you had even if you can't remember. Like wise if you don't go/can't go you will be able to read about what a great weekend you have missed!

Coblers Monday Whitby's Shanty Group are again booked for the Shanty Festival on the Whitby Weekend which is the weekend after the Music Port Festival This Weekend (It's half term take the week off and stay for both!) Meanwhile, If you want to take a fun Look at Coblers Monday NEW Website you can find us on The Mudcats links page or the address is:- http://uk.geocities.com/aaardvark001. Hope you enjoy your visit to our latest web pages we have Photo of Whitby and The Grand Turk information on the Whitby Folk Club and other links. Our intention is to expand the site in the near future (once we have sobered up from the Captain Cook Weekend) To include lots of exiting things including a Mick Haywood's Song collection and Plenty of Sea Shanties. Hope to see you all in Whitby Cheers from tyke (George Clarke)

I'm not certain yet but I'll be trying to get to Whitby to sing with the Shellbacks! Whitby is great, but don't tell everyone. Last time I went, I had to go to Robin hoods bay instead 'cos I couldn't park!

I'm going to be in Darlington learning to sing, too, Geordie. Isn't it infuriating that the best things come in twos and threes?

Looking forward to a great weekend.

Not just your opinion Spot, I think Rick Stein also said it. If you can be bothered to queue go to the Magpie Cafe it is amazing. I have been going to the Shanty Weekend for several years. There will be several Mudcatters hold up in a secret location on the weekend of 27th October and taking part in the singarounds, usually in the Pier, Endeavour and Plough pubs. I've always enjoyed it immensely, and usually Michael from Swansea is around with Baggyrinkle. On Sunday the normal folk club in the Tap & Spile is most enjoyable and hopefully Mandomad and Jingle will be there. Aardvark and his missus will definitely be around and let's face it Tyke is always there! Just a few Mudcat names you are likely to come across together with several others including myself.

The best part of Whitby is discovering the place yourself. The old side (east) is a delightful place to wander with lots of pubs and shops (Black Horse is one of the best). The other side has typical small seaside attractions and some nice pubs including the Elsinore , The Angel , Plough and what used to be the Cutty Sark but is now (alas) renamed the Tap and Spile.

Best Fish and Chips in the UK can be had from the Magpie Cafe (IMHO).

Hope you enjoy it...we will be there Nov 2nd and 3rd for the Goth Festival (Dracula is linked to Whitby).

Spot

I'm off to Whitby on October 26th for the Captain Cook Festival with the Shellbacks. Never been to this one before. Does anyone know what it's like? Are there any other Mudcatters going? Where are the best places to go?
