Subject: The Cobbers From: GUEST,gaelicsinger Date: 02 Nov 01 - 07:33 PM I was privileged to hear a delightful folk group from Australia at the Texas State Fair in 1981 or 82. They called themselves "The Cobbers". Lots of fun, energy, and really good music. I loved the percussion instrument made from beer caps on wood. Being a poor college student at the time, I went halves with my roomie for a tape. Needless to say, after college, we've lost touch and I really would like to find their music to purchase. Has anyone heard of them? News??? How to??? ........ go raibh mile maigh agaibh Denice |
Subject: RE: Help: The Cobbers From: Stewie Date: 02 Nov 01 - 08:59 PM Denice, unfortunately, the Cobbers are long gone. As far as I am aware, their last recordings were made in the 1980s. I do not know of any reissues. Bob Bolton (a Mudcatter who is very knowledgeable on Australian bush music) may well be able to give you some information and perhaps advise about current groups of similar style. If you become a member of Mudcat, you could send him a personal message. In any event, he will probably see this thread. The instrument you refer to is called a lagerphone. --Stewie. |
Subject: RE: Help: The Cobbers From: Bob Bolton Date: 03 Nov 01 - 06:31 AM G'day gaelicsinger, I presume you were the "ardibee" chasing The Cobbers 13 months ago at this link: The Cobbers. I'm afraid that I have no further information on the band. They were great fun, but they lost a lot of spirit when they lost their accordionaist ... and they seem to have disbanded and gone their own ways. Reards, Bob Bolton
