Can anyone on mudcat tell me who the true artist is for this tune?I have it on an 8 track by the Oakridge Boys,I also taped it off of Willie Nelson's Outlaw and the Kickaboo Indian Dish channel sung by Lorretta Lynn and I have it by Johhny Cash. Many believe it was written by Johnny Cash But I believe it was written first by Lorretta Lynn. Thanks for the help Louie Roy

'spaw's right above. If you want to find info on a recorded song try HFA The Harry Fox Agency. http://songfile.snap.com/ If ONE writer/artist is listed it's probably copywrighted by them.

I had it on a Johnny Cash album in the sixties and my memory tells me that the cover notes attributed the song to his brother. I sang it for years as a busker in Queensland and it was really popular out in the sticks. I thought the cover said his brother's name was Ray, but I could be wrong about that.
