It was written by Finbar Furey who adored Derroll.
It's also in the Fureys songbook.

Derroll was an easy man to like, he once told me I was the ugliest bastard in the whole world, and made it sound like a compliment.

That's a lovely song because it captures the Derroll I knew in Lost Angeles.
We were buddies then and when he left with Jack, well, I missed him. Fortunately, Patrick Ferryn is able to bring him back.

To know Derroll was to love him. He was the real deal.
