Subject: Lyrics: 'Gamblin' Man' From: Slant Date: 06 Mar 98 - 10:25 AM Looking for lyrics to old timey song. First line is: 'My father was a gambler, I'm a gambler too..." Style of the song repeats last line of each verse as the chorus. This song is on, I think, a collection of old timey music that Mike Seeger has out. Any info or direction pointing would be appreciated. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gambling Man (from Mike Seeger) From: Jim Dixon Date: 24 Nov 05 - 02:29 PM Mike Seeger recorded GAMBLING MAN on his album "Music from the True Vine," Mercury LP SRMl-627, 1972, which has apparently not been reissued. There's also an album called "Close to Home: Old Time Music From Mike Seeger's Collection (1952-1967)" Smithsonian Folkways CD 40097, 1997, which contains a song OLD GAMBLING MAN sung by J. J. Neece. I listened to a sound sample, and part of it was unintelligible, but I heard this refrain: "Bound to win your money, boys, and I'll carry it away with mine. Carry it away with mine, Carry it away with mine, I'm bound to win your money, boys, and carry it away with mine." |
