Subject: Voice changes of the rich and famous From: AliUK Date: 11 Jan 02 - 06:51 PM Recently I have been downloading heaps of Mp3s from grokster, of loads of my favourite singers that I don't have access to their music ( i.e. I can't buy their albums). When I downloaded two Nancy Griffith songs "I knew Love" from the album who's name escapes me at the moment and "Gulf Coast Highway"which came from the same album, but the downloaded version was obviously from a later period. The first one was as I remember her, that waif-like voice that differentiated her from other country singers ( who remembers New Country?) and the second version, to my horror she was warbling along just like Dolly Parton, with that exagerrated downhome-chitlins and grits type of voice that turned me off country music. My question is...how many other singers voices have changed over time? |

Elton used to have a higher smoother voice long ago and now it seems a bit "forced". Billy Joel just sounds harsh at times when he sings - doesnt do the ballads as well as he used to. Is it the alcohol and cigarettes taking their toll? |

Subject: RE: BS: Voice changes of the rich and famous From: michaelr Date: 11 Jan 02 - 08:24 PM Any Joni Mitchell fan will be aware that her voice has dropped at least an octave between her first album and the "Turbulent Indigo" CD. My feeling is that this is a side effect of the aging process (sagging?) and is to be expected from any singer who records over several decades. Of course, drinking and smoking would contribute. Tweed - you're kidding, right? |

Subject: RE: BS: Voice changes of the rich and famous From: AliUK Date: 12 Jan 02 - 09:34 AM Yeah but is it also the genre that changes a voice? Take Dolly Parton f'rinstance. Her voice is the same as it always was. Billy Joel and Elton John I think is a case of age. As with Joni Mitchell as well I suspect. But do people grow into the genre they sing? |
Subject: RE: BS: Voice changes of the rich and famous From: Mr Red Date: 12 Jan 02 - 09:52 AM Hey my voice has changed - its called Ano Dominii. Once you look at commercial recordings there is also the "marketing" to include in the equation. Who do the marketing men want to get spending the money? Is is this a father figure, is it a sibling sound, is it a teen? Sorry to be so cynical but I remember the Thatcher years and look at her accent over the years. Look at Englebert Humpadink (the Anglo-Indian tonsils not the Tuetonic noteworthy) his accent is pure USA (mid East/West/North/South) |
Subject: RE: BS: Voice changes of the rich and famous From: Tweed Date: 12 Jan 02 - 09:58 AM I AM serious! Heck if you listen to any of the Bad Recordings at my place you'll know why I look up to Dylan's vocals;~)... Dammit Sorch..yer elbow's in my eye... |
