The first words to this song are: Everybody else has gone, but you're still here with me, All the world is sleeping by and by, Through the window pane the frosted light is streaming in, The full moon's sailing high across the sky, Tonight is like the night when we first met, etc.etc.etc

Does anyone know which album this came from?

"This was recorded at Basing Street Studios during the summer of 1976, as part of the Rendezvous sessions, but left off, as it was felt that the album had too many ballads and not enough `rockers'. In retrospect this seems to be one of Sandy's greatest songs. It was posthumously released on the Who Knows Where The Time Goes? box set. It also appears on the Hannibal CD version of Rendezvous.

An alternative version recorded at the same session was released on The Attic Tracks Vol. 1, without the Acker Bilk clarinet solo but with Dave Swarbrick more to the fore and taking the solo."

Lyrics and tab are there, too, if you need them.

Thanks so much for that info, Sorcha. I first heard it on a tape someone made for me, from a tape he had made for him! Also "By the time it gets dark" was on it. I perform this in my own way,and the other night someone said that Mary Black had written it, is this true?

Sandella, in my copy of Who Knows Where the Time Goes, attribution for the song is Sandy Denny/Jardinere Music. So I would say that Mary Black didn't write it although she may have sung it at some point.

"By the Time it gets Dark" written by Sandy Denny and recorded as a home demo. First released on boxed set, Who Knows Where the Time Goes, 1985 (Hannibal). Recorded by Mary Black on her album of the same name, 1987.

The song you're quoting is called "Full Moon", on the same boxed set, previously unreleased.

Michael
