Hi Alan. Rod gave me the lyrics and music to this several years ago. It's just a case of me looking for and (hopefully) finding, the bit of paper it's on! Someone will quite likely come back with it before I do, but if not, and if I can find it, I'll send it in the next couple of days.

In the 1950's I did a number of trips to Australia in ships of the Peninsula and Orient Steam Navigation Comp., and the Orient Line. These were big ships, 'floating hotels', the main cargo being passengers. On the return voyage we carried wool or refrigerated goods. This was written in 1968. My old friends Jim Mageean and Johnny Collins did much to popularise this one."Hope this helps!

Thanks Gervase. Will I see you at Chippenham? (This year I'm giving it its last chance as a pub singing festival! It was pretty terrible last year when the singing pubs weren't available for various reasons.) All the best.

I'll be there (if the tickets turn up - currently they seem to be lost in some Wiltshire space-time continuum).
I only made one day last year, but Tony O'Neill's lunchtime session seemed pretty good (even if the Wilson's dislodged five years' worth of ear-wax!). This year I'm going for the full jubilee Monty (So nice of Her Maj to make my birthday a national holiday, I thought!)<=br>= See you there.

The name Tony O'Neill strikes a bell.

Was he the guy who ran the mighty singarounds in the village pub at The Towersey Folk Festival? (I can't remember the name of the pub?) It was quite a few years ago since I was there.

The village hall was just around the corner, and that was Festival venue . I had put my name down to give a song there, it didn't seem likely that I was going to get a chance to, so I went to the pub. I learned afterwards that my name was called out in the village hall. Unfortunately The MC recognised me later and he wasn't too happy. But on that occasion, I think I made the better choice. I think that informal singarounds serve as a vital ingredient to any festival.

As for the late Rod Shearman, there are three of his songs in my repertoire. "The Big Fella", "Sail Away", and "Say Do You Remember When?" The last two he wrote out for me and sent a self-recorded cassette tape containing the songs.

Back to Rod. Yes he told me at the time about his intention to sue for copyright on "Sail Away".

Rod was at the Towersey Singaround when I was there.

A smashing person to know and a talented song writer.

Of course if you buy the CD you get Dave, Anni and Johnny singing the harmonies on Sail Away(and Mick's whizzo guitar accompaniments on 5 other tracks).

Or you could wait for the book.......
