Subject: Norman Vaughan - RIP From: Fiolar Date: 19 May 02 - 06:17 AM Sadly another entertainer has gone to the great stage in the sky. Norman Vaughan age 79 died of injuries sustained recently in a road accident. He hosted the show "Sunday Night at the London Palladium" for some years after Bruce Forsyth. He was also a host for the TV shows "The Golden Shot" and "Mr and Mrs." One of his catch phrases for the Cadbury's chocolate advert was "Roses Grow On You." ("Roses" being the name of the chocs.) He is survived by his wife, son and three daughters. Condolences to the family. |

Must have been a hell of a job to take the Palladium spot when he did - virtually unknown, following a big star. RIP. - ian B

Subject: RE: OBIT: Norman Vaughan - RIP From: C-flat Date: 20 May 02 - 12:56 PM It's sad to think of all the song and dance/variety performers dying out. As a young man I didn't much care for them but in recent years I've come to respect how these guys plied their trade. True performers to the end! |
Subject: RE: OBIT: Norman Vaughan - RIP From: Long Firm Freddie Date: 20 May 02 - 06:30 PM My favourite memory of Norman Vaughan is seeing him doing a Wilson Keppel and Betty style Sand Dance to "The Old Bazaar in Cairo".
He was dressed as Betty, wearing a bra made out of two saucepan lids. These he clashed together like cymbals at an appropriate point in the song.
Variety at its best! LFF |
