Just something to add to the exiled princes and prime ministers asking for you to hold their bank books... this came in my email... Thought ya'd have a giffle.
Cheers Larry
Dear Foundation Director,

With great gratitude we appreciate the good works, which you and your foundation have done so far we pray that the almighty God in his infinite mercy will reward you abundantly.

We are The Concerned Youths Organization (CYO), a non-profit and non-governmental organization set up to help our youths grow in their Spiritual and normal healthy life; our major motive is "Introducing and Initiative to Save our Youths and Children and Directing them unto a Godly Leadership for the Future"; because children are leaders of tomorrow.

As a Concerned Youths Organization, we wish to bring to your attention some issues and problems envisaged concerning the youths and children of our nation today. And we are proposing to you a project that will see us addressing these issues and problems and as well bring deliverance to our youths and children. In a nation where about 60% of its population is under the ages of 24 years and 25% of its population also is under the ages of 10 years; work need to be done to help them.

We on our own have been involved in some number of activities, that helped families, youths and children in the remotest part of Eastern Nigeria; that the Government ignored.

We detail below the major and some of the problems attached to it, that are confronting our youths and children today – The major problem is "Poverty" which we believe you are conversant with. Poverty has led our youths and children to so many problems, which is difficult for kins to handle. Poverty have cause some vital problems to our youths and children; viz:

1. Malnutrition

2. Illicit Sexuality with attendant HIV/AIDS Scourge.

3. Female circumcision

4. Tribal Marks and amputations of hands/legs due to some illicit religious laws.

5. Child abuse and Extortion.

As a matter of fact, due to this poverty problem our children have been exposed to so many problems that lead to their deaths.

So we the Concerned Youths Organization are hereby asking for grant of US$500 from your foundation to enable us carry out our project tagged "ANALYSING HUNGER" No matter how little you can give, it will be highly appreciated and that also will save three lives from poverty today.

Thanks and God bless you as you give to the life of our youths and children, the funds will be used properly and in the remotest part of Eastern Nigeria where the Government is ignoring the welfare of our children.

Yours Faithfully,

Richard Ojadi Richard Imogu Coordinator Project Manager

Well at least they're not asking for your bank account number like the old-fashioned Nigerian scam! Of course, they're not offering you $30 million, either. I do admire their honesty in calling their project "ANALYSING HUNGER". Just in case you thought your $500 was actually going to help the children.

Aloha,
Mark

InOBU, I got one that was so poorly set out that I was tempted to redo it for the poor scammer.
There are some very sophisticated Nigerians who run effective credit card extortions. The cards that they manufacture and the selection of targets are quite professional. Russian rings are good at this as well.

All credit to them for coming up with a new scam, but it just doesn't have the imagination we've come to expect, and crucially, it doesn't appeal to the mark's greed, surely the essence of any good scam. May be we could pool our resources and come up with a really good Mudcat scam to make us all r.... err, to make a bundle and donate it to Max!

I prefer the ones that offer $30 million, $50 million...the thought of people becoming completely unhinged with greed amuses me. Take a trip to your local casino to see what this sort of psychology has wrought in people's lives.

I work for an Agency of the Federal Government (your tax dollars at work here, as I surf Mudcat!), so when I occasionally receive little email missives here on my work computer from an Official of the Nigerian Government offering me untold riches, I pass them on to the NIH Police Detective who has a sort of hobby collecting them. He passes them on to the Secret Service, who collects them in a file that they ignore or something...

The detective and I had a chat about them; he told me of one case where an elderly woman had already given these louses $85,000 from her retirement money, and didn't want help from the police - she said that her check for $1.2 million would come any day now...Sad.

Very sad. No wonder they keep doing it. I imagine $85,000 goes a long way in Nigeria.

Yea I had a few widows' names that were supposed to trigger credibility, only one of which I recognised - Ken Sarawewa's. They all come to one e-mail address I used once on one site and is now on a CD of "scamRus".

my latest:

"Subject: Assistance needed for acquisition of properties/treasury bills.

Dear friend,

I am Mrs. Sese-seko widow of late President Mobutu Sese-seko of Zaire, now known as Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). I am moved to write you this letter. This was in confidence considering my present circumstance and situation. I escaped along with my husband and two of our sons Roland and Basher out of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Abidjan, Cote d'ivoire where my family and I settled, while we later moved to settled in Morroco where my husband later died of cancer disease.

However, due to this situation we decided to change most of my husband's billions of dollars deposited in Swiss bank and other countries into other forms of money coded for safe purpose because the new head of state of (Dr) Mr Laurent Kabila has made arrangement with the Swiss government and other European countries to freeze all my late husband's treasures deposited in some european countries. Hence, my children and I decided laying low in Africa to study the situation till when things gets better. Like now that president Kabila is dead and the son taking over (Joseph Kabila). One of my late husband's chateaux in Southern France was confiscated by the french government, and as such I had to change my identity so that my investment will not be traced and confiscated. I have deposited the sum Nineteen Million Five Hundred and Twenty Nine Thousand United State Dollars (us$19,529,000,00.) With a security company for safe keeping. What I want you to do is to indicate your interest that you can assist us in receiving the money on our behalf, so that I can introduce you to my son (Roland) who has the out modalities for the claim of the said funds. I want you to assist in investing this money, but I will not want my identity revealed. I will also want to acquire real/landed properties and stock in multi-national companies and to engage in other safe and non-speculative investments as advise by your good self. May I at this point emphasize the high level of confidentiality, which this our upcoming project demands, and hope you will not betray the trust and confidence, which I repose in you. In conclusion, if you want to assist us, my son (Roland) shall divulge to you all briefs regarding this project, tell you where the funds are currently being maintained and also discuss remuneration for your services. For this reason kindly furnish us your contact information, that is your personal telephone and fax number for confidential purpose and acknowledge receipt of this mail using the above email address.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Mariam M. Sese-seko. "
