Subject: SAVE A LIFE From: DonD Date: 13 Jun 02 - 12:41 PM I 'm not happy with the BS label, because this is serious. Before joining the Forum today (and most days), I helped to save a life. It was easy, asd you can do it, too. The Breast Cancer Site arranges for free mammograms for needy women, sponsored by their advertisers and based on how many hits the site gets. They've provided over 500 this year to date, and we can help to make it many more. It takes literally seconds a day, but if only one life is saved --- wow! |

Subject: RE: BS: SAVE A LIFE From: Mrrzy Date: 13 Jun 02 - 01:11 PM Well, this is good, but the evidence is that mammography does nothing to save lives. |
Subject: RE: BS: SAVE A LIFE From: Ebbie Date: 13 Jun 02 - 09:54 PM Hey, don't forget the Hunger Site and the Rainforest button at the same place. I do it automatically when I first log on each day; it's become second nature to me. And Mrrzy, the Breast Cancer site is for helping fund mammograms for people who cannot afford them- thereby letting them make up their own minds as to whether to have them or not. |
Subject: RE: BS: SAVE A LIFE From: Mickey191 Date: 14 Jun 02 - 02:15 AM Mrrzy, as one whose cancer was found because I had a mamogram I shall politely disagree with you. Yearly check-ups were anathema to me,but for some reason I did the Mamogram thing yearly. My cancer was not palpable, so I might have gone my merry way for 4 or 5 yrs. unattended to. By then it probably would have spread-many ovarian cancers cells originated in the breast. While some cancers may not be diagnosed thru mamograms - many are. There is a new machine out now which is picking up those which may have gone undetected before. I think your statement was a bit rash. Slainte. |
Subject: RE: BS: SAVE A LIFE From: Mr Red Date: 14 Jun 02 - 01:25 PM Mrrzy the mammogram does not. The system of screening does. In the UK we have what is laughingly called a health service. If it weren't for breast & cervical cancer screening schemes we could sue them for trades desrcription. It is a SICKNESS service. For use by ill people. Screening is a health service! Is it 70% (or 80%) of all men here die with (not of) prostate cancer and we have no organised screening service for it in the public health sector. But it is a killer - just ask Frank Zapper, he would tell you. |
Subject: RE: BS: SAVE A LIFE From: Sorcha Date: 14 Jun 02 - 05:21 PM I click on all three every day. I truly don't know how much good it does, but I guess it salves my conscience. I know I get my "tit in a wringer" every year. The other nastiness too. Un fun. Probably die of lung cancer after enduring all that indignity. |
Subject: RE: BS: SAVE A LIFE From: Mickey191 Date: 14 Jun 02 - 11:39 PM Sorcha, you do have a way with words. Best description of the process I've ever heard. |
