True, some words are just about only used in a insulting way, but many words can be used that way. Instead of worryng about words, we should worry about attacks and insults.

Acctually, we shouldn't. I generally ignore attacks and insults unless I believe that the individual who is attacking me misunderstood a comment I made.

Actually, in a more serious vein, it is probably a comment on the Mudcat community that there are maybe more than seven words you cannot say on the MudCat. Any racial denigration, such as the N-word, any denigration of sexual orientation, such as F*ggot or B*mbo, and, of course, Sanctimonious Liberal Twit...

In the case of some words it is hardly possible for them to be used without knowing that they are going to insult and offend other people. That means that there is an intention to do this.

True, there are contexts within which any word can be used in a way that is not offensive, but outside those contexts, using them is a breach of fellowship and an act of gross discourtesy. Not funny. Cheap and mean and nasty.

Since when CAN'T you say certain words on Mudcat?

Certainly, some people wish that you do not,

Others delete one or two letters from words (as if sh*t is so much better and anyone old enough to use a computer doesn't understand it).

If it's a particularly brutal tirade, someone my censor it.

The big question is why are people offended by certain words - especially if those words are not being used to insult someone or some thing.

And of course, heaven forbid if someone asks us what BS stands for...
