Subject: Anyone else's postings vanishing?
From: Little Hawk
Date: 24 Oct 02 - 08:50 PM

Hi, folks. I've been noticing that about 1 out of every three or four postings I make to the forum simply vanishes into cyberspace lately. I usually find this out sometime later when revisiting the thread, and finding my posting not there. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Is there some kind of glitch in the revamped website? Or are the "conservative cavalry" onto me and sabotaging my efforts? :-) Worse yet, could it be a conspiracy to defame the name of William Shatner and cause declining enrollments at the WSSBA?

I sure hope not. I need my cut to keep the hamster in seeds.

Hi, Little Hawk - did you click on the Little Hawk name in your post to see what took and what didn't? If you post, the thread should go to the top of the Forum Menu. If it doesn't, then maybe you goofed (or maybe Mudcat goofed, but I haven't noticed that).
I think it's best to be a bit methodical about posting - type the message, review it, submit, and then wait for the Forum Menu to load completely. Then double-check your message to make sure it "took."
If you're in too much of a hurry to double-check, maybe your message wasn't worth much in the first place.

Well, never mind.

I have not lost any posts. But, if the missing posts of Little Hawk were Shatner based, then, I demand a full investigation! Bring in the FBI, ATF, CIA and Hairy Ass Truman! This must not, can not, be tolerated!

It has crossed my mind in the past that there may be some Anti-Shatners in this forum. If these missings posts are Shatner based, then I think that it is too much of a co-inkydink. Something smells foul here! Let us, together as one nose, sniff it out!!

One of mine got lost, but I knew it had because the system froze up after I posted it. If I'm making a long post, I usually copy the text to the clipboard before posting so that if anything (or nothing) happens it is easier to repost it.

I've had several posts disappear like that since the revamping of Mudcat. Sometimes there's an obvious explanation, e.g., a delay in transmission or something. But in some cases, the "submit message" process seemed to go without glitch, yet the post isn't there the next day.
I can't swear to this, but I think I've even had a couple of posts disappear after I've opened the thread and seen them there.

And I doubt that any of the ones I'm referring to would have been censored.

At least one of mine has disappeared as well as an answer to it. I always check (my postings are SO valuable) and I know it was there right after I posted, I saw a reply later in the day, but when I wanted to reply to the reply the next day, both had disappeared. This was about 5 days ago.

Sensible people take ctrl+c copies of posts before pushing the submit button. When I do that I tend to push ctrl+v by accident and lose the whole post...

I had one of my posts go missing recently. I also need to complain about the new Mudcat.

I post a message, then hit the back button to get back to the list of message/threads. I figure I must have clicked the "Send" button mentally and it didn't work, then I backed up. Anyway, that new wetware interface didn't work and you need to fix it. Right now. Either that, or I tell the aliens where you live and you can just hope they've got the short in the anal probe fixed!

Ah-hah! I knew it wasn't just my imagination. This is a cyber-crisis in the works, friends, make no mistake!

Postings are vanishing down "post holes". YOUR posting could vanish NEXT!!!

Be double sure to copy and recopy your deathless words of wisdom before hitting the fickle "Submit" button and committing your prose to posterity...or obilivion.

The real question is...is it a software glitch...is it an anti-Shatner conspiracy...is it a conservative plot??? It could even be all three! I expect CNN will shortly be on the job tracking this story down with 24-hour-a-day LIVE coverage, and just boring us all to tears until we get to the bottom of this deeply disturbing situation and uncover the great EVIL that lurks behind it!

Now. I ain't no dummy. I am copying this into the buffer. Twice. Then I'm posting it.

A thread I started earlier never showed up, but I thought maybe it was just because another on the same topic appeared at roughly the same time, and so mine was deleted. So, it might be something more sinister, LH? *shudder*

It just happened to me again this afternoon, and I'm pretty sure I actually saw it in the thread shortly after I posted it, but it's not there now. I posted to the "Obit: Sen. Wellstone" thread, and then Alice posted a note, and I replied to her post. Now my second post is not there.

One thing I am quite sure of is that there was no error in the way I submitted the post this time, and there was no computer freeze or "error" message (such as I get when too many people are trying to access the forum).

I'm wondering if this happens when two or more people hit "submit message" at the same time.

Genie

My friend Michelle has two teenage sons, and I nicknamed them "Null" and "Void". They are twins (not identical, though) and they don't care much for each other. Most of their conversations revolve around the words "gay" and "idiot-boy". It's scintillating stuff to listen to, unless you've got something really fun to do like suck on an old shoe...

I think it's lack of female company that is troubling them.

I note with satisfaction that my last ** mention of got through. So far. I'll be watching...

In my case, all that is missing when I look back for a post is the sense I'm sure I put into it. Poof! All gone! Whatever I was really thinking is vamoosed! So.... you'll just have to mindread it back in, I guess.

Happened to me last night, as I posted to the "Pay to Audition" site. My deathless words flew into the void and I got locked out into the cold Brooklyn night.

Seriously, the site seems to be less reliable lately.

Defiantly, a couple of my postings appeared on my computer at work but when I look at my computer at home there they were GONE! no sign that I had even answered or entered into any debate, I was mystified, then saw this posting, Ha I thought I am not alone, the Glitch is out there or in there somewhere.

Maybe we should use smoke signals instead, mind you they would vanish with the high winds we have had of late, so who knows!

Hi, Carly - if you click on your name on the message you posted above (or click here), you'll see all the messages you've posted as a registered member. No Fox Hollow stories, I'm afraid. If there are missing messages, I usually am able to attribut lost messages like this to "user error," but maybe there IS a problem this time. We're watching it and trying to figure it out.

In the meantime, please be sure to be methodical in the way you post messages. Type the message, click "submit," and then wait for the Forum Menu to appear with your thread on top of the list.

And remember that the easiest way to check for your previous messages is to click on you name in any post you've posted.

Welcome to Mudcat, Carly - nice to see that you've joined us.
