Subject: November Songs From: mmb Date: 15 Nov 02 - 08:59 PM A local news announcer says we should expect potentially severe changes in our weather this weekend - hopefully nothing like last week's storms in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. But the announcer's phrasing made me think of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald: "When the storms of November come early." How many more November tunes are there? |

I must have done something wrong. And I wouldn't have checked it again if not for your suggestion. The list of results is truly mind-boggling! Whoda thunk??? Meanwhile, one of the songs that turned up when I re-ran the search - Skibbereen - has a very special meaning for me. My maternal grandmother was from Skibbereen, and family lore says she was attending Mass in Cork Cathedral when news came of Kevin Barry's execution. Any Irish historians out there know if that can be true? Can anyone tell me if there are any recordings that contain "Skibbereen?" I can gat the sense of the tune from the MIDI, but would also like to hear it sung. Any suggestions? Thanks again, Genie! M. |

Subject: RE: November Songs From: Peg Date: 16 Nov 02 - 10:58 AM If by "Westron Winds" you mean Robert Burns' "Westlin' Winds" the actual "title" of that song (it never had a formal one) is "Song (Composed in August)". The lyrics seem to be speaking of late summer as autumn approaches, the harvest season. But I like to sing it at any point from August thru December!
