Heading to a gig with three of my friends (two musicians and a "civilian") The two musicians LOVE old songs and whatever this kind of humour is called. We play a similar game to this, with FISH puns (you get the picture). After twenty minutes our non-musician friend says (in an irritated voice) "enough PLEASE enough". We shoulda stopped. We didn't. Two minutes later she burst into hysterical tears.....didn't stop for quite a while....we came back from the gig and she still wouldn't speak to us. That was years ago (at least a couple)....she's still mad. hmmmmm me bad. |

Subject: RE: Curry Songs From: Boney Mac Date: 15 Jul 03 - 04:36 AM "My Hindustani Granny" was the title of a great song i was honoured to be given the text for, at Toender Festival in Denmark c.1986, by the late Hamish Imlach. The chorus of which goes: I huv a grannie and she´s a Hindustani, She´s ma Hindustani grannie frae Bombay, |
Subject: RE: Curry Songs From: Boney Mac Date: 15 Jul 03 - 04:51 AM Somehow the last two chorus lines did not appear in the last posting so here goes: She feeds me chipatties, wi´ curried mince an´ tatties and I´m vindaloo all day. Unfortunately this song was never allowed to be recorded because of some eedjit in the "Hairy Louder" Society holding the rights to the tune of "I love a lassie". |
Subject: RE: Curry Songs From: Ritchie Date: 15 Jul 03 - 07:45 AM I've just heard a sketch by Jasper Carrott who said he was introduced to the hottest curry of all time in Newcastle. It was so hot that the side dish was a plate of Savlon. ritchie |
Subject: RE: Curry Songs From: Kevin Sheils Date: 15 Jul 03 - 07:51 AM Ritchie "I've just heard a sketch by Jasper Carrott who said he was introduced to the hottest curry of all time in Newcastle.". Not song related (except that I was on my way to the local folk club) but I was in my local curry house and somebody at the next table ordered a Chicken Korma with the request to that they "Wanted it hot". The waiter pointed out that Chicken Korma was a mild curry. "I know that" came the reply "but I want it hot, not lukewarm like the one you served me last week". Funny old thing language. |
Subject: RE: Curry Songs From: treewind Date: 15 Jul 03 - 08:13 AM Kevin, talking of late-night eating in that area have you heard Chris Pitt's parody on the Boar's Head Carol "from the previously uncollected Walthamstow Urban Tradition" "This doner kebab I bear in hand Is the finest in the land..." You'll have to hear the rest from him on a suitable occasion. Anahata |
Subject: RE: Curry Songs From: Kevin Sheils Date: 15 Jul 03 - 08:20 AM Yep Chris sang it at our Christmas party since we insist all spots are seasonal.............. And there was plenty of seasoning in the kebab, I believe That reminds me, the most convoluted song title (which I think is what this thread is all about to get back on track) was one I heard at the National, so long ago it was still at Loughborough University was "Bhindi red red Rhogan Ghosht kebab kebab kebabin' along" |
Subject: RE: Curry Songs From: Dave Bryant Date: 15 Jul 03 - 09:54 AM I'm still looking for the words of "Vindaloo" to the tune of "Loving You". It starts something like: Last night I went to the pub, then had some indian grub . . . . |

How about a collaborative completion?? Alan |
Subject: RE: Curry Songs From: Charley Noble Date: 24 Jan 05 - 03:51 PM Fine beginning, Alan!
