Subject: 2002: My sister dated Jimmy Rodgers From: wilco Date: 09 Dec 02 - 11:28 AM We were playing at a Christmas festival Friday night, doing mostly Christmas songs. We also did some of our regular play-list, including some Jimmie Rodgers stuff. A very, very old lady came-up afterward, and said that "....her older sister had dated Jimmie Rodgers." It turned-out that it was THE Jimmie Rodgers. The lady was 100 years old. |

Subject: RE: 2002: My sister dated Jimmy Rodgers From: GUEST Date: 09 Dec 02 - 03:25 PM That's one thing I love about playing and singing in retirement homes. I meet folks who've played with some great musical folks of yesteryear. Occasionally, you even run into one of the old greats there, themselves. Thanks for the story. Genie |

Subject: RE: 2002: My sister dated Jimmy Rodgers From: Rick Fielding Date: 09 Dec 02 - 04:43 PM Great story Wilco. I played at an old folks Home about six years ago, and this little ol' guy comes up to me and says "Where's yer accordion"? "Nope" says I, "I play guitar and banjo". "So your mother didn't teach you accordion eh"? He says. He then told me that he'd been in one of my late mother's bands OVER 50 years ago! He had recognized my last name, and had come down to the lounge to see if "Dotty's kid" was any good! He said my timing was good, listened to a couple of songs, and then drifted off to sleep in his chair! Cheers Rick |

Subject: RE: 2002: My sister dated Jimmie Rodgers From: Amos Date: 09 Dec 02 - 11:19 PM Three thousand miles from my "home" state, and a good fifteen years after my father had died, I met a lively white-haired editor/publisher who asked me, on an off chance (hearing my last name) if I was any relation to my Dad. Turned out they'd worked together for a number of years back in the City, when younger, and he had very positive memories of my father from that time, thirty years earlier. I don't mind telling you it knocked my wee socks right off!! A |

Subject: RE: 2002: My sister dated Jimmie Rodgers From: Ebbie Date: 10 Dec 02 - 12:54 AM Bill D, if gargoyle is 106 years old, his uncle would, if alive, be 130 years of age, and could easily have sired Jimmie Rodgers who was born in 1897. Assuming the necessary proximity, of course. :) |

Are you surprised Gargoyle has such a bitter and twisted attitude towards the music that scarred him so badly, having been forced as a child to listen to songs like that played by his over-achieving cousin?
