And don't forget that the most interesting part of the country is from the Rocky Mountains on west.

Don't forget North Carolina! There are a couple of us here, and more withing driving distance. Would love to have you, and gigs could be arranged here at our cafe/pub or in the area, depending.

We'll try to have the lights all back on for you by then....

Dani (who is warm at work now, but not at home!)

llanfair. I did it for the first time this summer. My advice is, take marmite and teabags. You'll get nothing but Lipton's tea which is frankly not I would call tea. Also try to superintend any tea-making that goes on. Boiling water and s on are not familiar concepts to the indigenous natives.
Watch out if you slip into West Virginia near Harpers Ferry, you might get kidnapped by Bobert which is what happened to us. I suppose it was all right if you dont mind bear-shooting, moonshine, squealing like a pig , incomprehensible accents and eating roadkill possum.

Bron, If you can't wait until the Getaway, I believe Old Songs in May(?) is fairly "cattified", otherwise, try and get to Portsmouth ,New Hampshire, to the Press Room, and meet Curmudgeon and Bat Goddess, and Jeri and several other catters that attend. The welcome is like Llanstock1 was!!!

Oh WOW!!!, thanks, folks!!!! I am going to get a large map, mark out where you all live, and try to plan my "tour" Oh, this is wonderful!!
There are so many people and places I want to see.....Spaw, your list seems very comprehensive, I think I'll use that as a starting point.
It will definitely be in 2003, and earlier rather than later!!

Cheers, Bron.

From the U.K. where will you end up if you travel 25 hours by car or 5 hours by plane? Some people may not realize the vastness of this country, may have no idea that there are at least 900 miles from Ohio, say, to Mississippi or a good 2500 miles from New York City to San Francisco. I'd be interested in hearing Bill Sables' opinion- was there enough time for everything you wanted to do or everywhere you wanted to go?

From Juneau Alaska it's almost 1000 miles to Seattle- and more than that from Anchorage to Seattle- and yet we think of Seattle as being our front door. I know some local people whose doctor is in Seattle- that's like living in Portland Oregon and having your family doctor in Los Angeles...

You have a real problem, Bron., If you come to the States, you have to visit ALL OF US.
We have a very nice folk music camp in California, the week after Christmas, set in the redwoods near Santa Cruz. Then you can wander a bit and come back to my house in March, and Christina and I will show you the wildflowers and the waterfalls. Come soon.

Bron, if you start here in San Diego, I can run you up to Mudlark's place, and maybe she could pass you off to Radriano or Joe Offer or PJ's place! And if the time of year is right, Barky might have a space in SFO too!! Then you could jump on up to Washington and visit all those good folks up there -- then maybe swoop through Canada to pick on a few choice targets, or down to Ohio, see Spaw, then down to Mississippi and the South, visit khandu and Bobert and Tweed and learn to sing blues, and then swing up through Florida and up the East Coast until you end up breathless and exhausted at Sinsull's or the Captain's porch. By that time they'll have thawed....

There is a bed in Michigan. Lodging here comes complete with a kid, a cat who talks too much, a one hour drive to Elderly Instruments, and all the singing you can stand.

All the best,

Big Mick

Bron, there's definitely a place for a fellow countrywoman here in Ottawa with Charmion and me. Rich M and Willie-O are a couple of fine musicians who live nearby. I'm sure we could arrange a session.

Susanne: one day, God willing. I've really enjoyed the posts from the German Mudcatters. I lived in Germany for three years and sang in a Polizeichor, but never met any folk musicians. I'd like to make up for lost time.

Llanfair, how exciting for you! I do hope you'll be able to go (only try not to make it the first weekend in May ...), and I can see you won't have to worry about accommodation with so many friendly Mudcatters scattered about. (Anybody considering the reverse journey? You're most welcome.)

But if you want your Marmite at breakfast, you'll have to bring it or buy it, you won't find it in my house! :-)

Sorry Art....I left out a hundred or so.....No offense okay? I hate getting into names so I try not to, but we really have a lot of 'Catters across the country. Were you around when Bill Sables and Allan C. did the Great Mudcat America Tour? What a kick that was!!

Well Bron, it's a big country but you have a place to stay just about anywhere you are in it!!

The biggest conclave of 'Catters is probably on the east coast in the Washington DC area and then up in New England. Sinsull and Kendall are in Maine and then heading down thru New Hampshire and the other states are Jeri, Bat Goddess, Naemanson, Barry Finn, the Patons, and a boatload of others. The DC area is filled with folks like BillD, and Ferrara and Fortunato and about 25 or so others. But we're also out here in the midwest too....Me, Big Mick, Art Thieme, Mary in Kentucky.....We're all over the south from Florida with harpy and Banjer to Mississippi with khandu to Texas with Aine, Jed Marum and many others. And then there's the western crew in Colorado of katlaughing, Lonesome EJ, and Sorcha (Wyoming)....and then the California contingent of Dave and Pam Swan, radriano, chanteyranger, Joe Offer, Amos and more all over the place.....not to mention the great northwest with JenEllen, Mary Garvey, and bookoo others.........and of course in Canada and close to the east coast sorta' is that huge bunch that Rick Fielding recruited in Toronto.......

You name it and we'll fix it up somewhere and somehow......and I can about guarantee you'll not spend a dime for lodging anywhere. Talk to Terri and especially talk to Bill Sables as well.

Spaw

You'd be most welcome to my couch here in New York's Hudson Valley, Bron; I don't live in any sort of Mudcat epicenter but I am a minute's walk from the train that goes to NYC (about 1 hour and 15 mins) which might be a convenient spot to meet up with other Mudcatters. Come and sing with me! Margaret

It has been a fantasy of mine since finding Mudcat over 3 years ago, to visit America and meet and sing with some of the people I have been talking to all this time.
It may be that I can now find the air fare.

So........where do I go? Who can I stay with?, when would be the best time? Would there be any gigs? Do I have to bring my own Marmite?

I'm ready for this, but is the USA ready for me?

Cheers, Bron.
