From: Gareth

Arising from the e-search for the words to "The Ballad of Joe Stalin" I wonder if any aging Catters can recall that parody of the "Lincolnshire Poacher" sung to my memory in London in the 60's and 70's.

The chorus was, again, to the best of my memory:-

With Moscow gold and dynamite we'll set the people free.
Oh, 'tis my delight on a Friday night to bomb the bourgeoisie."

Search on DT & Forum reveals nothing, like wise a search on various leftish websites - Help anyone - Please!!!

Gareth

I don't know if these are what you're looking for, but there are a couple of threads containing, or discussing, songs about Stalin:

Lyr req: Joe Stalin

Ewan MacColl and Stalin

Subject: Lyr Add: SONG OF THE BOGLE CLENCHER
From: Mr Happy
Date: 01 Feb 03 - 05:28 PM

here's Ramblin Sid Rumpo's [Kenneth Williams] version:

SONG OF THE BOGLE CLENCHER
(Words by Barry Took & Marty Feldman)

Now I should like to burst forth ... with a traditional Lincolnshire air. 'Tis the song of the Bogle Clencher, and goes after this fashion:

When I was a clencher's bogleman in famous Lincoln town
I often clenched my bogling fork for less than half-a-crown
And I would joggle and nurk, my boys, as I shall quickly tell
Oh, 'tis my delight on a shiny night, on a foggy night as well.

Oh, once I took my moulies and set them in a snare
'Twas there I spied a scroper's man a whirdling a hare
But I was not afeared, my boys, of that there is no doubt.
Oh, 'tis my delight on a shiny night when the coppers aren't about

Although I'm over 80 now, my boggles still I clench
And I will flutter my artefacts at any passing wench
I've tickled many a screebling nut as on my way I go
Oh, 'tis my delight on a shiny night at one-and-nine a throw.

There's a song called "Bomb the Bourgeoisie" recorded by a band called "Free Loan Investments." It's on a 5-song 7-inch record made in Sweden called "Youth Will Understand," advertised here.

Bomb the bourgeoisie

We'd bags of gold from Moscow boys and tons of TNT
and when the night was dark my boys we'd have a jamboree
and if we killed some workers if was accidentally
oh tis my delight on a dirty night to bomb the bourgeoisie

when I took up witch politics to set the workers free
I left the labour party boys and joined the red CP
i soon made friends with Pollitt we were great friends him and me
oh tis...

Hey Jim, I listened to that song by "Free Loan Investments," and let me tell you; definitely not it. I won't actually even post the lyrics here. Here are pretty much the exact same lyrics Tam the Bam posted, but sourced. These lines are from the book "Socialist Songs," edited by Race Matthews, page 59. You can look at the book here. The book also reports that it was a song sung by student socialist movements.

BOMBING THE BOURGEOISIE

We'd bags of gold from Moscow, boys, and tons of T.N.T.
And when the night was dark, my boys, we'd have a jamboree
And if we killed some workers it was accidentally
Oh, 'tis my delight on a dirty night to bomb the bourgeoisie

When I took up with politics to set the workers free
I left the Labor Party, boys, and joined the red CP.
I soon made friends with Pollitt--we was great friends, him and me
Oh, 'tis my delight on a dirty night to bomb the bourgeoisie

But Gareth indicated there was more of the song. I can't seem to find anything else on the song but those 2 stanzas.

Well, that's what the book had, and you can check it! Which I thought was weird, considering it's Australian, until I Googled "Australian Labor Party," and apparently that's how they spell it. That being said, I don't add "u" in words like "color."
