Subject: Dave Kenningham From: Mugwump Date: 28 Dec 02 - 11:25 AM Several years ago I visited a folk club in a pub in Lodon somewhere. There was this bloke called Dave Kenningham (or something similar) he sang a wide range of pop songs, in the traditional style - stuff like The Monkees & Cliff Richard transformed to sound as if they were traditional folk songs - his best number was a sort of sea shanty version of Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight". Does anybody know if he is still about or wether he released any albums? |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: GUEST,Ed Date: 28 Dec 02 - 11:57 AM Well, there is a Dave Kenningham, active on the London folk scene. See here and here. A fair bet that it's the same one, I'd think. Perhaps getting in touch with the venues where he's hosting stuff, would glean a contact number? |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Mugwump Date: 28 Dec 02 - 12:35 PM Thanx Ed |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Mugwump Date: 29 Dec 02 - 08:04 AM Managed to get hold of him - he plays regularly at The Tudor Barn in Eltham SE London |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: rock chick Date: 30 Dec 02 - 05:52 AM Thats the guy i saw the other week, couldn't forget him, if i remember rightly he also sang 'ride on' he seems a nice kind of guy, may pop along to the Tudor Barn and catch a glims of him again, never know your luck. If you see him again invite him to the Anchor at Lewisham, would be nice to see him there. |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Essex Girl Date: 30 Dec 02 - 10:01 AM Dave, you're a man of hidden talents!! Why have I not heard you sing this kind of stuff over the past few years. I'll be down the Anchor one night to jog your memory. |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Mugwump Date: 30 Dec 02 - 02:48 PM You're messin' around |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: rock chick Date: 30 Dec 02 - 04:54 PM Now Charles my dear is that a new song, sorry haven't heard that one before, perhaps Dave can sing it when we see him next! or better still do you have the lyrics and chords? |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 06 Jan 03 - 04:59 AM The last time I heard the legendary Dave Kenningham, he was being drummed out of the country - allegedly bound for South Australia. |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: rock chick Date: 06 Jan 03 - 06:42 PM Well i thought i saw him the other Thursday at the Anchor, ther again it could have been a lookalike, cause this guy didn't have a guitar with him, who knows? |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 07 Jan 03 - 06:15 AM Yes we had a guy who looked like him who turned up at one of our barbecues last summer. He didn't have a guitar with him either. |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: GUEST Date: 07 Jan 03 - 09:00 AM Just got back from South Australia, just before Christmas. I'm pretty sure I saw this guy in a sleazy hotel lounge bar, only He did have a guitar a rather beaten up old Yamaha if I recall, he was pretty good, but looked like he hit the old snow pretty often, his nose was as shiny as his head. Please do not ask why i was in a sleazy hotel lounge bar in South Australia!!! |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 07 Jan 03 - 11:02 AM I wonder if it was the sun being reflected off the top of Dave's head which caused the recent bush fires. |

Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Mugwump Date: 09 Jan 03 - 08:10 AM I saw this guy play last week at a pub in Greenwich - I'm amazed that he has never released an album. Definitly catch him at The Tudor Barn in Eltham LONDON SE9 on Wednesday 15th January - you won't regret it! |

Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: rock chick Date: 11 Jan 03 - 05:23 PM This guy popped into the Anchor last Thursday, with his guitar, and he played it, great, what a musician, one not to be missed. Lets hope he comes again soon. |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: GUEST,Folk Fan Date: 11 Jan 03 - 06:53 PM DAVE'S 50th Birthday is on 23rd Jan not 16th as staed by an earlier correspondant |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: rock chick Date: 12 Jan 03 - 07:04 AM Your quite right, I remember him telling me last Thursday that it was in two weeks, so the 23rd it is, and that's official. So is there a pre birthday drink at the Tudor Barn on Wed 22nd,drinks on Mr Kenningham? |

Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 14 Jan 03 - 07:17 AM There is a very high probability that the infamous Dave Kenningham (or one of his look-a-likes) will be at the: TUDOR BARN, Well Hall Pleasance, Eltham on Wednesday 15th January (tomorrow) Will all his hundreds of fans, please form an orderly queue at the door. Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 14 Jan 03 - 10:31 AM I thought that it would be a fitting thing to call the attention of that beautiful, cultured, talented lady, Ms Penelope Rutledge to our own Mr David Kenningham. Currently her suitors include the well-born but caddish Mr Winston Wellington-Jones and Oakley a weak but well-meaning member of a group of performers (from Hull9 !) who advocate equestrian cruelty. Surely such a union should be encouraged for the good of the nation. |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Mugwump Date: 15 Jan 03 - 08:48 AM I believe Dave is free & single |

Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Kenningham Date: 02 Feb 03 - 07:36 PM May be RDK try The Tudor Barn next Wenesday in Eltham |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 03 Feb 03 - 05:38 AM It could be the real DK - he said that he was hoping to be on line by the weekend. The trouble is that I think that the mudcat name was originally set up by a wannabe DK (Charles Atlas et al) so I hope that he's handed the name over to it's rightful owner - in which case change your Password Dave. If anyone really wants to come and hear me perform, I may be at: The Tudor Barn, Eltham on Wednesday, The Kentish Horse, Mark Beech on Thursday (Travelling Folk). On the fourth Thursday of every month Linda (Essex Girl), myself and Ted Clark - collectively Barleycorn run a session of songs and music at "The Black Horse", Stanstead near Wrotham, Kent - come along and see how we manage to get a good mix of songs and tunes. On Saturday 22nd February, Barleycorn and Friends with caller Alan Austen will be presenting a Charity Ceilidh at the East Peckham (Kent) Social Club. Tickets are a mere £5 and a buffet will be included - there will be a licensed bar. All profits will go towards the Peto Andreas institute who help children with neural difficulties. PM myself or Essex Girl for further details or tickets. |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Mugwump Date: 03 Feb 03 - 11:35 AM It was the real DK he posted the message from a computer in Eltham library. As for the Mudcat handle I haven't nicked it - honest! There must be another DK wannabe out there! |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 03 Feb 03 - 11:50 AM Perhaps he's called "Woodsie". |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: GUEST,The real Dave K Date: 03 Feb 03 - 04:25 PM And I thought I had to wait till Knockholt festival to see DB perform.(Stage 1 - I recall last time he brought fifty seats and they were sold out for the midnight concert). I cannot wait until Wednesday night at the TB. Is it anyone's birthday?. |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 04 Feb 03 - 07:07 AM You have to bring your own seats to Knockholt - or sit on the ground. I think it was more of a case of bringing about 4 seats - and they all got nicked by other people. Anyway, you'll make me all bashful - you know what a quiet, retiring sort of person I am. |

Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 17 Jun 03 - 10:33 AM These days Dave Kenningham is growing so weak that he has great difficulty in carrying his guitar around with him - well I assume that's why he didn't have it with him at our BBQ. Let's hope that he's feeling stronger for the Knockholt Weekend or can find a roadie to carry it for him ! |

Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: GUEST,Robin Hood Date: 26 Jun 03 - 07:43 AM Who was Dave Kenningham? - was he the geezer cooking piles of out of date sausages on the embers of the knockholt bonfire? He didn't play or sing - My family travelled all the way down to Kent, from bonnie Inverness to hear the legend perform. We were bitterly diappointed. Shame on you DK for building up our hopes and then stuffing yourself so full of sausages that you were unable to sing. |
Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Dave Bryant Date: 26 Jun 03 - 07:58 AM He did sing - well he started "South Australia" then left Richard Bridge and me to finish it for him. Subject: RE: Dave Kenningham From: Girl Friday Date: 25 Feb 12 - 02:19 PM I found this thread again... thought you ought to know.... Dave turned up at The Seven Stars last Monday... without a guitar.... borrowed one... played eight songs all the way through with no errors.... and.... wait for it..... without crib sheets ! |

I know that tactic of his..... trust me..... what's the point of bringing crib sheets when you haven't brought your guitar? Pete.... low attendance wasn't in it? Because of Bexley's great love of roadsurfacing Sidcup Hill in one swoop, only the 233 bus stopped in Foots Cray, and that took a circuotous route. Dave was the only one who. like Lord Franklin ever got through. There were about four players and two audience. |
Subject: RE: Info req: Dave Kenningham From: The Barden of England Date: 27 Feb 12 - 12:53 PM It wasn't Lord Franklin Girl Friday - it was was an Eskimo named Only! Splendid chap who always manages to play 'Ride On' in the wrong key. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Info req: Dave Kenningham From: Richard Bridge Date: 28 Feb 12 - 03:02 AM Did he do the skiffle version of "Leaving of Liverpool"? I first saw him do that perched on the back of a chair downstairs at the Tudor Barn - the first time Jacqui and I ever went there. |
