Subject: Comin' Round the Mountain??? From: Dan Date: 07 Jul 98 - 11:18 PM Can anyone help me with the lyrics to this song? I'm not sure if it would be called a "bawdy" or a "hash" or something entirely different. This is all that I know of it. She was comin' round the mountain doin 90 miles an hour when the chain on her motorcycle broke. She was thrown in the grass with the muffler up her...........well, you get the idea. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
Subject: RE: Comin' Round the Mountain??? From: dick greenhaus Date: 08 Jul 98 - 10:52 AM As far as I recall, it's a one-stanza parody. She was comin' round a bend doin' nine miles an hour When the chain on her bicycle broke; She was found in a pass with a sprocket in her pocket She was tickled to death by a spoke. |
Subject: RE: Comin' Round the Mountain??? From: Earl Date: 08 Jul 98 - 11:24 AM I think this came up in the "naughty kids" thread. Here's how I learned it:

Subject: Lyr Add: SHE'LL BE COMING 'ROUND THE MOUNTAIN From: GUEST,TJ in San Diego Date: 29 Nov 07 - 04:11 PM I assume this is a serious query, so I'll give it my best shot. This is probably one of the first songs children traditionally learned in the U.S., after nursery school. It was sung around camp fires, at kids' parties and in schools. I have no information on its origins, although it sounds like it could have been a fiddle and banjo dance tune in our rural areas at one time. It probably has some hidden meaning, but I've no idea what it might be. Others? She'll be comin' around the mountain when she comes. She'll be comin' around the mountain when she comes. She'll be comin' around the mountain, she'll be comin' around the mountain' She'll be comin' around the mountain when she comes. She'll be drivin' six white horses, etc. And we'll all go out to meet her, etc. And we'll all have chicken and dumplings, etc. By the way, it was not the same tune as for "The Wreck of the Old 97," but perhaps reminiscent of it. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Comin' Round the Mountain??? From: Amos Date: 06 Jun 08 - 04:13 PM There is an almost-Republican density developing in this thread. 1. The verse requested is not called "Coming 'Round the Mountain". 2. The verse requested is a hack variant on the "Wreck of the Old 97" (not 99). It has as many variations as naughty minded school children have been able to dream up in the last ~75 years. 3. "She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain" is as described above by TJinSanDiego. A |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Comin' Round the Mountain??? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 06 Jun 08 - 05:02 PM A different song, yes, but it too has its share of after-dark verses. I gave her inches one and drove it on. I gave her inches one and drove it on. I gave her inches one, She said "Honey, this is fun! Put your belly close to mine and drive it on." More verses in Ed Cray, "The Erotic Muse." The girls they grow tall in Kansas. The girls they grow tall in Kansas. The girls they grow tall And they lay 'em on a log, And they fuck 'em like a dog in Kansas. and etc. Vance Randolph, "Roll Me in Your Arms." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Comin' Round the Mountain??? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 07 Jun 08 - 03:22 PM Of course "She'll be Comin' ..." is a parody itself, of the hymn "When the Chariot Comes" (1899, "Old Plantation Hymns"), posted by Richie (13 Nov 02) in the original thread 4947, linked above (the one with 35 messages). Here's a verse of another parody about an inept home handyman by Kristof Robertson- Tried rewirein' my kitchen, house burned down Tried rewirin' my kitchen, house burned down Tried rewirin' my kitchen All the firemen are a-bitchin' And they're tryin' hard to run me out of town. I think that is on line; I just happened to write that verse down on my copy of "She'll be Comin'...". |
