Subject: Giac Hospitalized
From: wysiwyg
Date: 03 Feb 03 - 08:50 AM

Some of you are already aware of recent challenges Mudcatter Giac (Mary) has been facing. This morning I received the following PM:

==============================================================
Message:
from friends of Giac:

Mary has been hospitalized for tests; she was in tremendous pain on Saturday. The doctors are discussing chemotherapy and radiation because the tumor has recurred and is inoperable. She is in need of all the spiritual support we can offer. Thank you, thank you.

===============================================================

Giac (pronounced like "Jack") contributed a song to the Mudcat CD Sampler project; it's typical of her that on one of the worst days she'd had of late, she wrote me that she was going to sign off and go spend some time with her guitar, which always "makes things all right." She also said, recently, that despite the pain and fear, she was experiencing stretches of deep peace, knowing people were thinking of her and/or praying.

I am having terrible trouble with my computer, but if I can I'm going to send Pene a photo she sent me during the last year, of Giac with her beloved dog. Any help getting clickies inserted would be appreciated. What I can do with this damn puder at the moment is pretty limited.

I'll let Giac's friends know that this thread will be running, to print and take to her.

You are much loved, Mary.

~Susan

Thank you, Susan, for letting us know.

Mary, please know, you have been, and will continue to be, in my thoughts and daily meditations/thanksgivings. I am sorry there has been pain and I trust there has been some ease from it in the past day or two.

In peace and healing,

luvyakat

I have not been able to recover any of the wonderful pictures Mary sent me in the last year. Her dog has been her delight and constant companion, a faithful solace in pain and a devilish partner in play... does anyone have one of these pictures to send Pene, to add to the Giac-with-Guitar picture already in Member Info?

If she hasn't posted it to the liner notes, we'll have to ask her permission when she joins us again. What a beautiful song and lovely tune...very catching.

Callie, thanks so much for keeping us informed and for being there for Mary.

Subject: ADD: In Jesus' Lap
From: wysiwyg
Date: 03 Feb 03 - 03:47 PM

Here's a piece I wrote awhile back; I'm going to think of it as Giac's song. Some people say the tune reminds them of "Sweet Hour of Prayer," although it's really 4/4.

Anyone else have a song to post for Giac?

~Susan

=====================================================

IN JESUS' LAP
by Susan Hinton

CHORUS:
In Jesus' lap I love to lie
And lie there when I can.
In Jesus' lap where I was born
When to His lap I ran.

1. In Jesus' lap is always Truth
And truth in love is told.
In Jesus' lap is peace and life,
No story is too old.

2. To Jesus' lap will I return
When buffeted by storm.
To Jesus' lap my soul does fly
When cold heart I would warm.

3. From Jesus' lap I'll pray for you,
And bless you in your way.
From Jesus' lap, love, I can see you
Clearer every day.

4. In Jesus' lap, His loving arms
Encircle what He's won.
In Jesus' lap, oh! lay me down
When I my race have run.

Susan, a few of her jokes that she sent are probably a good idea!!! Here are a couple she got from somewhere that I like:

**********************************************************************

Miss Bea, the church organist, was in her eighties and had never been
married. She was much admired for her sweetness and kindness to all.
The pastor came to call on her one afternoon early in the spring, and she
welcomed him into her Victorian parlor.

She invited him to have a seat while she prepared a little tea. As he sat
facing her old pump organ, the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl
sitting on top of it filled with water. In the water floated, of all things,
a condom. Imagine the shock and surprise. Imagine his curiosity!

Surely Miss Bea had flipped or something . . . !

When she returned with tea and cookies, they began to chat. The pastor tried
to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but
soon it got the better of him, and he could resist no longer.

"Miss Bea," he said, "I wonder if you would tell me about this?"
(pointing to the bowl).

"Oh, yes," she replied, "isn't it wonderful? I was walking downtown last
fall, and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to
put it on the organ, keep it wet, and it would prevent disease. And you
know. . . I haven't had a cold all winter."
**********************************************************************

A CNN reporter went to Israel to cover the fighting. She was looking for
something emotional and positive and of human interest. Something like
the man in Sarajevo who risked his life to play the cello everyday in the
town square.

In Jerusalem, she heard about an old Jew who's been going to the Wailing
Wall to pray, twice a day, everyday, for a long, long time. So she went to
check it out.

She went to the Wailing Wall and there he was! She watched him pray, and
after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, she approached him for an
interview.

"Rebecca Smith, CNN News. Sir, how long have you been coming to the
Wailing Wall and praying?"

"For about 50 years."

"What do you pray for?"

"For peace between the Jews and the Arabs. For all the hatred to stop.
For our children to grow up in safety and friendship."

"How do you feel after doing this for 50 years?"

"Like I'm talking to a f***ing wall."
**********************************************************************

Yeah! Just the ones I was thinking of!

Look at all the posts. Giac has loved, and been loved by, quite a diverse lot. The differences that might have been so visible once upon a time feel quite small and insignificant to me now as we each, from whatever view of her she's given us, see much the same thing. A kick-ass, brilliant, huge-spirited sweetie pie.

Today I finally received my Chrissy presents from my secret santa, Giac.

It was the most amazing box of goodies, BEARS!! including one she had been given years ago, one of the series "I (red heart)(place)" - in this case a bear from her home state, Arkansas as she wanted me to have something from there. The bears came with a wonderful letter & lots more pics of bears - some she had photographed, others she had found on the net, lots of her photographs of her surroundings - her favoutite fishing spot (surrounded by autumn trees- that's fall to some of you!!), scenery here & there, carved bears & a dime store Indian - too much to tell. And her dogs - one wearing a a coat with ears, it looked like a bear suit, the same dog standing in the snow (& not very happy). Its the best present I've ever had.

My colleagues admired everything couldn't believe that a stranger had gone to this trouble to collect everything for me.

So hurry up & get back on line, Mary, so far you have one short message waiting & I certainly do want to have lots more contact.

big hugs

sandra

Subject: Lyr Add: BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER (Paul Simon)
From: Rustic Rebel
Date: 04 Feb 03 - 03:41 PM

Healing thoughts coming your way Mary. Don't forget your own healing powers inside of you.

BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER (Paul Simon)
As recorded by Simon and Garfunkel on "Bridge over Troubled Water" (1970)

When you're weary, feelin' small,
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all.
I'm on your side, oh, when times get rough,
And friends just can't be found.
Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.

When you're down and out, when you're on the street,
When evening falls so hard, I will comfort you.
I'll take your part,
Oh, when darkness comes, and pain is all around.
Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.

Sail on, silver girl; sail on by.
Your time has come to shine; all your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine!
Oh, if you need a friend, I'm sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water, I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water, I will ease your mind.

-----
The bravest people are those who don't feel brave but do what they need to anyway.

Love, Rustic
