Subject: Black History - childrens From: GUEST,MAG at work Date: 21 Feb 03 - 12:15 PM I'm putting together my post-Valentine's storytimes, featuring Black History Month. I was kind of surprised to not-see "Brown Girl in the Ring" in the database (here are the words, Dick), and I have a few I've picked up from Ella Jenkins' workshops and recordings over the years, such as Did you Feed my Cow? (yes maam). Anyone else have any child-friendly favorites? (Taj Mahal's Shakin' a Tailfeather ransk high.) MA at work (Library) There's a brown girl in the ring Tra la la la la There's a brown girl in the ring Tra la la la la la There's a brown girl in the ring Tra la la la la And she looks like sugar and a plum plum plum Let me see you make a motion Tra la la la la et. al. Single child in center of ring does a motion, then chooses a partner, zipper song, make new verses and actions. roughly adapted from the Rounder re-release |

Subject: RE: Black History - childrens From: Tinker Date: 22 Feb 03 - 08:12 PM i see the rhythm by michele wood and toyomi igus is a wonderful picture book and poetic review of black music in America from African roots through slave songs, blues, ragtime, jazz and on and on. It actually has history and identifies songs and artists .... check it out. Shake It To The One That You Love The Best collected and adapted by Cheryl Warren Mattox doesn't seem to be in print anymore. When my kids were a tad younger I got a copy as a set with a cassette. Unfortunately the tape plum wore out. Great songs and games. Tinker |
