It is one of those horrible songs that keeps haunting the empty hallways of my brain in much the same way as "Song Sung Blue" does. I am thinking that if I knew all of the lyrics, perhaps the spirit of it could be put to rest. Parts remembered are:

Darlin' won't you wait, won't you wait, won't you wait
Won't you wait 'til I come home..............

(and)

Should another love come your way, come your way............

Can somebody put me out of my misery?

Found it, Allan!

DARLIN', WON'T YOU WAIT

Darlin', won't you wait, won't you wait, won't you wait;
For I must go far away.
Darlin', won't you wait, won't you wait, won't you wait
'Til I come back home to stay.

Should another love come along, come along,
Simply say that you're not free.
Send him on his way, on his way, on his way.
Darlin' won't you wait for me?

Oh, my love, some of us they say are bound to die.
Oh, my love, how it breaks my heart to say goodbye.
Oh, my love, when I'm far away, I'll miss you so.
Hold me close. Kiss me once again before I go.

Changed from all caps. --JoeClone, 6-Apr-03.

As far as I can tell, the only difference on the recording is:
Oh, my love, some of us I know are bound to die.
It's on the Brothers Four self-titled album. I don't see a copyright date. Songwriters are P. Vance and L. Pockriss, whoever they are.

Pockriss...now there is an unfortunate name. Must have had a tormented childhood.
