Subject: Website Help???

Hello there;
Besides being a member in a local Irish band I am also serving as the band's webmaster. I currently host my site using cjb.net redirection servies but as a means of better promotion, I'd like to switch us over to a dot com address. Can anyone lend some good advice out there?? Refer anyone with good prices?? I may need to host or maybe just a redirection might be a possibility...
Cheers;
mutineer

Normally, if you lease a domain (your site's address, i.e. "yourbandsname.com") through any service - network solutions, register.com, godaddy.com, etc., all you'll need to do is provide the registrar with your DNS information and then have your host switch it over. Depending on the registry service you choose, you'll need the primary/secondary name and/or the primary/secondary IP address from the host.

If you're not computer literate, it's not as complex as it sounds - the DNS information should be easily obtained from your web host, and usually you can submit the DNS switch to your domain provider via online forms (or over the phone with their tech support).

Once you've got the DNS "repointed", it's then usually just a matter of a call back to your website host and a couple of days for everything to propagate.

on one of the web sites i was searching (with gypsy wagons
which i went to from a link in the thread about caravans...)
there was a mention that in europe, or perhaps it is england,
there has recently been a change--some sort of new HTML code
is being used jsut recently?
if you are making any changes you may want to check out this
new code so you can be using it--any one know about this??

Well, we have had a few problems lately which are mostly resolved now but I would still reccommend my ISP. They are 38h.com.

Pip's site, the Annexe, is on the "Mono" package and comes out at around £50 per year including domain name.

I'm running folkifo on one of the "Reseller Packages". again, that one comes with a free domain name. That one comes out at a bit under £20 per month. Last time I tried to work it out in terms of bandwidth, I am running at something like 1/350 capacity but I think I would run into trouble before that as we run a lot of conversion programs to manipulate abc to produce pdfs, transpose, etc. I think I would hit a situation of "monopolising processing power" before the bandwidth limit was reached.
