For all you West Coast Rennies who may not have been informed, Valhalla Renaissance Festival has been cancelled for this year, due to hassles in moving to a new site. It seems that at least some of the performance groups and vendors have been officially informed, but not all, so I am posting this as a public service.

My apologies to those who may think I should have put this under "BS", but music is performed there, and I wanted to make sure people see it.

Thanks, Melani - I have a 13-yr-old stepson who has been looking forward to Valhalla for months. He's be heartbroken, but it's good to know in advance.

I see a Website for the Valhalla Fair here (click) - but without your message, I don't think I'd understand what was going on. This page says nothing at all about a cancellation. Neither does this one (click). If you can guide me to a Website that will give up-to-date information, that would help a lot.
I did find this page, which verifies the cancellation, but one would think the information would be better. I think I won't say anything about it until after school.

Well, this may have been the festival which was scheduled at the same time as the folk gathering that I am hosting. If it does not happen,
then we may have more folks attending the west coast mudcat/paltalk/
folk music society camp jam in Butte County in June! So if you do not
get to go to this festival, don't frown, just come on down! This event,
"Camp Hoot "N" Holler" is held on the site where the Society for Creative Anachronism has held their Arts and Science festival, and the coronation of the royalty of the Western Realm,

Sorry to hear about the cancel. I'm in full swing at RPFS, but I've many friends (the Seadogs) who work Val every year.

Hopefully next year will be better.

Joe, the only reason I know about this is word of mouth from three friends, one being Bill R, who was notified through his dance group. I am a vendor there and have been for maybe seven years. This year I did not receive the usual application and had to call and ask for it. Then I never received any other word from them. The dates had been changed to overlap the Fair Oaks Faire, where I had already been accepted, and I didn't dare back out of that until I was sure I was in at Valhalla. I never did hear from them, but saw last week that they had cashed my check, so I backed out of Fair Oaks, only to have to call back this morning and squirgle back in. So far I have received no official notice of any kind from Valhalla. I am less than pleased.

However, if your stepson is suffering from lack of 16th century, bring him to Fair Oaks June 21-22--it's right next door to you, after all. My booth is called Leather and Lace, and I sell leather goods and costume accessories, and you and any other 'Catters in the neighborhood are welcome to stop by for cookies. Bill R will probably be there too, and they have a great music session with Rats in the Haggis on Saturday night.

Yes, Gypsy, I will be there at least one day. I don't know yet if my guild will have any kind of presence there, but I am seriously considering registering as a performer anyhow, and then finding a place--I know at least one I can probably get into, if not more.

So this time, let's have a better connection plan if possible. Registration is the last weekend in June. I will PM details when I know them. Do you have a date in mind yet?

I'll try to make it to the fair in Fair Oaks, Melani. For most of the last ten years, I lived within walking distance of that one. It's a nice location, but often it's hot and dusty by the time they have the fair.

The website says the dates are July 12-August 10. I will be out of town the first week in August anyway. We'll figure something out.
