Subject: REQ LYRICS to That'll Never Happen No More From: Bruce Mansbridge Date: 07 Aug 98 - 07:37 AM Trying to find lyrics to That'll Never Happen No More, recorded I think by Dave Van Ronk and possibly Roy Book Binder (a.k.a. Roy Bookbinder). Possibly a Rev. Gary Davis song. Piedmont style finger-pickin' guitar piece. Starts with, "Live in chicago, winter and fall. . ." Thanks. Subject: Lyr Add: THAT'LL NEVER HAPPEN NO MORE (D Van Ronk) From: J Woodland Date: 07 Aug 98 - 06:59 PM One of my absolute favourite songs to play, here's Van Ronk's version from the Newport Folk Festival, 1963
I met a girl in cabaret,
Living in Chicago in the winter and fall,
I went to a party the other night,
Van Ronk always played this one in the key of G (capoed on the 5th fret) |
Subject: RE: REQ LYRICS to That'll never happen no more From: GUEST,Frogmore Date: 17 Feb 02 - 11:27 AM Thanks - I've got it. It WAS Blind Blake. I got my "double B's mixed up (not Bill Broonzy). This is, of course not the Bahamian Blind Blake, who has some great calypso songs. This Blind Blake was from Georgia. Yeah, J. Woodland, I'll never get tired of this tune. That bass run just got under my teenaged skin when I heard it. No reason to debate the authorship or continue the thread unless remembering this tune is fun for you. Again, thanks. Frogmore |
