Subject: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: Walking Eagle Date: 21 Jul 03 - 03:35 PM sema as I'll be back on chemotherapy again. Last tests showed activity on my ribs. I can't breathe very well because of pain. Turning in bed at night provides some adventure as well. I'm asking you 'catter critters for two things. 1. Prayers and thoughts.> 2. Do any of you know if there is a place that I can send my hair to have a wig made of it? Things would be better psychologically for me if I had my own beautiful hair. Thanks 'catters. Please let me know of any hair info asap as I will be loosing it soon. Walking Eagle |

Subject: RE: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: lady penelope Date: 21 Jul 03 - 05:10 PM Much love and happiness coming to you. I could only find a couple of private companies in America that deal with this kind of wig making. One of the British cancer support groups had a great links page to wig makers/fitters but only in the UK. Are there similar organisations in America that would have any further info? Big hugs TTFN Lady P. |

Subject: RE: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: Walking Eagle Date: 21 Jul 03 - 07:58 PM I appreciate all of your good thoughts. I have been in and out of remission many times in thirteen years. Still, it always catches me up. I have very high faith in my oncologist. He knows me well. He treats me like a person and he cares for me. On balance, I guess I'm somewhat lucky to have a thick file ( means I've made it this far ). I AM getting weary of a lot of things though... |

Subject: RE: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: Ebbie Date: 21 Jul 03 - 10:23 PM Walking Eagle, keep in mind that all of us, they say, meet and overcome dirty cells very often in our lives. Add these prayers and good wishes to your own defenses and let them give you all the strength you need (and just a touch more). (Incidentally, I like your name. Did you know that sometimes eagles even swim? It is well documented. In Juneau, Alaska when an eagle lands in the drink either from having taken on a heavier load than s/he could handle or from having been dumped there by a 'friend', they will swim to the beach or a sand bar, arm over arm. On shore they shake themselves then stand there rather forlornly waiting to dry. Or maybe it's philosophically; with an eagle it's hard to tell.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: LadyJean Date: 21 Jul 03 - 10:49 PM A few more positive thoughts. I reccomend steak salads as a good way to replace all those red blood cells the chemo is doing in. Marinate flank steak in olive oil, and soy sauce. Broil, or micorwave for a few minutes. Serve over a bed of lettuce and LOTS OF SPINACH. I made these for my mother when she was having chemo. They helped her a lot. They also tasted pretty good. |

I think you know people through their words and yours, both in posts and our PM's, have always shown a kind soul with an indomitable spirit. Be assured that whatever I can offer in good thoughts are yours. I wish you still lived here in Columbus. As the first to be the beneficiary of the power of the 'Cat to help us heal, I can tell you that this fine group was and is a major asset. I was prayed over, thought about, chanted for , and whatever else, from all over the world and from a myriad of beliefs. I don't know which one worked best, but I do know the collective power of this place. Much Love to you and our Best Thoughts coming your way!!! Spaw (Pat and Karen Patterson) |

Subject: RE: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 22 Jul 03 - 12:36 PM Good wishes and prayers from Kentucky. Also, I called my friend J. who had chemo last summer...her daughter donated her hair to Locks of Love, but J. doesn't know if they or anybody else makes a wig from specifically donated hair. She suggested that you ask at a wig shop. She got a beautiful wig in Cincinnati. Also, you probably know more about chemo than any of us, but the advances in anti-nausea meds are refined everyday. I hope it's tolerable for you. Let us know when you finish so we can celebrate! Thinking of you. Mary |

Subject: RE: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: Janie Date: 26 Aug 03 - 03:39 PM Kat, I've been wondering the same thing. I pm'd her several days ago, but she is apparently not logging on. Subject: RE: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: wysiwyg Date: 27 Aug 03 - 10:01 AM I bet Julie, having been through this before, is just being extremely smart about resting and keeping any energy left by chemo for focusing on life around her in her own back yard. Part of winning the fight is keeping one's attention on the key priorities, not on the cancer.... so until we hear further, we just need to keep her in our thoughts and prayers and trust her to be doing what she most needs to do. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: Bobert Date: 22 Sep 03 - 10:39 PM And just to add what Susan has said, life is what it is as we live it. And we may chose to live in in the past or future, no matter, we must live it in the present. I learned this lesson with the passing of my late wife, Judy. She chose to live every day.... Hey, we are all waiting until our bodies give out but, in the waiting, why not live.... Sorry if this sounds sobering, But it's what I learned from Judy... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: Back on chemotherapy From: wysiwyg Date: 22 Sep 03 - 11:37 PM One thing I learn from Giac is that there is always enough energy to reach out to someone else, and that a pain day is a better day if someone ELSE gets something THEY need. It's hard to apply, but I am learning it, and it's pretty humbling. Another thing I have learned from staying as close to Giac as my limited time permits, is that it helps a lot if there is a contact person who can tell folks how the ill person is doing, someone who has permission to share updates without necessarily checking first-- it took awhile before she was comfortable about that and now I know I can let folks hear about the good days and the harder times in their season-- she doesn't mind others knowing, and she has said how she is lifted up by knowing people are thinking about and praying for her; I think she just doesn't want to run the operation of managing the flow of information. She's too BUSY. Walking Eagle, keep walking. ~Susan |
