Subject: Lyr Req: Red Leather Shoes From: GUEST,blue angel Date: 26 Jul 03 - 07:19 AM I heard a song called Red Leather Shoes on a Jim Eldon album at my brothers house. Now I can't stop singing it but I only know about 3 lines so am starting to irritate even myself. Can anyone tell me which album its on? I haven't managed to get a sensible answer out of my brother (who's really busy) and as I'm in Devon and he's in Scotland I can't just pop round and raid his music collection. I don't really know much about Jim Eldon, is there anything in particular people recommend for a first time purchase? Also, someone said that the tune sounded familiar, but not the words. It could easily just be my bad singing, but maybe someone knows if its written to the tune of something else? ps its very wet here in devon at the moment. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Red Leather Shoes From: Jim Dixon Date: 05 Aug 03 - 09:07 AM About all that AMG tells me is that Jim Eldon performed on a couple of Watersons albums. It doesn't list a song called "Red Leather Shoes"--but if you search for "Red Leather Shoes" you get an interesting list of similar song titles. Please post the three lines you do know. It might help. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Red Leather Shoes From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 05 Aug 03 - 11:29 AM I do actually have this somewhere, but can't look for it just now. I'll try to get back to it early next week if no one else has. My memory of the tune is that it's a fairly generic Country-style thing, but I haven't heard it in a long while. I think most of Jim's records are own-label. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Red Leather Shoes From: Betsy Date: 09 Apr 06 - 07:09 AM For me, the Golden Arrows reference and Red Leather Shoes all points to Singer / Songwriter ( and great ragtime guitarist ) - Eddie Walker from Teesside. Sorry I can't be more informative - but maybe Blue Angel can start a new thread " Eddie Walker " and maybe get to the root of the question. Hope I'm on the right track Cheers Betsy. |
Subject: Eddie Walker From: Betsy Date: 09 Apr 06 - 07:11 AM Can you refer to thread here "Red Leather Shoes" and assit Blue Angel . I believe the song required might have been written by Eddie . ( More info in the other thread ). Cheers Betsy |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Red Leather Shoes (Eddie Walker?) From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Apr 06 - 09:42 AM Hi, Betsy - it probably will work better with a combined thread title, so I combined your second thread with the first one and combined the titles. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Red Leather Shoes (Eddie Walker?) From: GeoffLawes Date: 09 Apr 06 - 07:41 PM I don't know if Eddie Walker also wrote a Red Leather Shoes but the song which prompted this thread was definitely written by Jim Eldon and is on his Golden Arrows tape. It was produced by Stick Records, 21 Corona Drive, Hull, HU8 0HH TELEPHONE 01482 703261 |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Red Leather Shoes From: GUEST,# Date: 20 Mar 21 - 08:05 PM Eddie Walker had an album entitled 'Red Shoes on My Feet', but it doesn't contain a song entitled Red Leather Shoes. Perhaps that's where the confusion arose. |
Subject: ADD: Red Leather Shoes (Tim Elson) From: Long Firm Freddie Date: 20 Mar 21 - 08:12 PM RED LEATHER SHOES (Jim Eldon) I walk these city streets And I’m hurting to my feet Teardrops sparkle in the neon glare It’s not my heart that takes the knocks I’m hurting in my socks And the hurting’s working slowly up from there But I’m gonna buy some red leather shoes I’m gonna walk these lonely streets in style My face ain’t the kind of face they welcome in this place But my red leather shoes gonna make ‘em smile By the church they fixed s sign It says “The Lord’s A Friend Of Mine” I stopped in there and knelt down for a time I didn’t go there to be blessed Just to give my feet a rest And though I didn’t find a friend I found a diamond So I’m gonna buy some red leather shoes I’m gonna walk these lonely streets in style My face ain’t the kind of face they welcome in this place But my red leather shoes gonna make ‘em smile I knew when I hit town I’d hear no “Come on round” I knew these streets could make a boy so sad I knew these city folk Could treat you like a joke But I never knew my feet could hurt this bad But I’m gonna buy some red leather shoes I’m gonna walk these lonely streets in style My face ain’t the kind of face they welcome in this place But my red leather shoes gonna make ‘em smile You know I’m praying those pretty shoes make someone smile LFF |
