Are there any (OLD!!) catters out there that can help, this has been driving us crazy for years.

The catchphrase? "IT'S BIN A FUNNY OL' DAY" as I remember, was at the end of a radio programme and had this bloke rambling on about the days events, he had a sort of "The Archers" accent, old country boy type.

WHAT WAS THE PROGRAMME CALLED!!

Sounds as though it ought to be Walter Gabriel (father to the sadly missed Nelson) Didn't the Archers use to have a brief introduction by one of characters - or is my memory going the same way as eyesight etc...?

Tom Forrest? Old Dan Archer's brother-in-law, who was gamekeeper.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it was Tom Forrest, and he used to introduce the omnibus edition like that, with a summary of what was going on. (They killed him off a couple of years ago. A bit too rural for the series.

Here's a site which would probably confirm that.

"Tom Forrest" used to start the omnibus edition of the Archers with "It's been a (Funny, strange, distressing etc) week here in Ambridge" but the line suggested sounds more like Bernard Miles' old gardener character:
Vicar come up to me when I was a-workin' in the garden "Good mornin',Jarge," 'e says. "'Ent it a wonder what a beautiful sight the good Lord 'as med of yer garden".
"Yers, vicar," I sez, "But you should-a seen the almighty mess 'e med of it when 'e 'ad it all to 'isself."

Pete Shutler was (is?) in the Archers and he played accordion on the omnibus edition intro music (only the omnibus edition).

Pete was one of the Yetties.

Thanks McGrath et al - nice to remember Tom (The Village Pump) Forrest again. Probably the nearest thing to folk song on the Archers.

I really appreciate the input, and can now have "peace of mind" until the next niggling thought comes up, (must be something to do with getting old)*grin*.
