Subject: BS: Yippeee! Got the job I wanted. From: Alice Date: 13 Oct 03 - 11:10 PM I've been freelancing and working part time jobs since 1991 while raising my son. He is 16 now, and it is time for me to get back in to a more secure full time position. I've been applying for jobs for a few months now, and today I got the job that was the most desirable of all I applied for! It hasn't quite sunk in yet that I will have a steady income and know I can cover all the bills every month again. The job is an entry level management/supervisory position in a company that is two years old. I love the entrepreneurial challenge of making a company grow. I will be able to do a variety of tasks in my position, which I also like. In addition to production and quality control work, I will be dealing with ordering and sales, re-designing the web site and the company stationery, and supervising new employees. The company is a wholesale gourmet all natural caramel manufacturer. The product is all hand made. I helped with the production last week when I went for the interview. The owner is very optimistic and ethical, a personality that I really "clicked" with. I am excited and RELIEVED!!!!! The first thing I did after I hung up the phone, accepting the job this evening, was to dance around Ryan's room saying, "You can get a new mandolin, you can get a new mandolin!" OK, now the urge to buy every instrument I have wanted in the last decade is going to have to be controlled. happy I am Alice in MT |
Subject: RE: BS: Yippeee! Got the job I wanted. From: Alice Date: 13 Oct 03 - 11:13 PM By the way, thanks for the help I got in applying for the USDA job. I received the letter 2 weeks ago that I was qualified for the job but not one of the three finalists, not having been a Federal employee or a veteran. I think I will like this job even more than the editor's position, as I don't like to sit at a computer all the time. I like being able to get up and move around, use my hands, do a variety of things in addition to the computer work. Thanks for the support in this quest. Alice |

Subject: RE: BS: Yippeee! Got the job I wanted. From: Alice Date: 14 Oct 03 - 12:09 AM Here is a link to an article about the company. Co-incidentally, I used to do the layout of the owner's business cards when she was with the tech company, ILX, and I was doing graphic design part time for a local printer. I was laid off a couple of years ago, right after ILX laid off many of their employees, as ILX was a major client of the print shop. Robin, the owner, started the gourmet caramel company after she was laid off from ILX. I found the job opening in the local newspaper classified ads a couple of weeks ago. Her web site right now doesn't work with Macs or Netscape, so that is one of the things I will remedy. A Caramel Coated Success Story - Click here |

Subject: RE: BS: Yippeee! Got the job I wanted. From: Alice Date: 14 Oct 03 - 12:37 PM When you walk in the door of the candy company, the smell of caramel is in the air. I could smell it still for 24 hours after being there during production. I also flashed on the I Love Lucy episode of the candy factory. I'm sure my fellow workers have had plenty of jokes about that. The truth is, smelling the caramel is enough... you don't need to taste it when you are enveloped in the fragrance all day. It takes a lot of upper body strength to do the cutting. It's a good thing I have been working out, building up my muscles. Alice |

Subject: RE: BS: Yippeee! Got the job I wanted. From: Alice Date: 15 Oct 03 - 09:35 PM Caramel, carmel, they are both correct, but people on the US East coast tend to say caramel and people in the West tend to say carmel. The owner is from New York, so she says caramel. We try to say whatever the customer says, so it doesn't look like we are correcting them. Hey, Dave, the company logo is... a Swan! Alice |

Subject: RE: BS: Yippeee! Got the job I wanted. From: Rapparee Date: 15 Nov 03 - 10:29 AM I do think that it would be in the best possible taste to send samples of the soft chocolate caramels to 'catters who live in states and provinces contiguous to Montana. The 24 oz. size, please, so that we can provide sufficient feedback on the quality. Congratulations! And a nice site, too! |
