Subject: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Rustic Rebel Date: 29 Oct 03 - 04:00 AM I hear through the grapevine that some certain people are running out of things to say. I also notice that there is nothing better than to talk about than ourselves. What can I say? I am a simple observer of things. So let's talk about ourselves. Only there is a little hitch in this thread. I mean, you can go ahead and just talk about yourself, anything you want to say, but I would like to make it interesting and ask you to reveal certain parts of your life that you would not normally reveal unless you were feeling totally un-inhibited and wanted to get right on down to it. Maybe a desire, a dream, a wish you made upon the first star tonight, a visualization of where you are going to be, a realization of where you have made yourself be. I have tried to do a thread like this before and it really didn't go far, but being people feel like we're running out of things to say.... well...I'm trying it again.... I'll start... My dream right now is... I want to get a battery for my van, load myself up and head out for Arkansas. I want to go down to Crater of Diamonds State park, camp out a week and do some diamond hunting. I want to head north from there, after finding my 24 karat diamond and go dig up some of those crystals I hear so much about. Yup. That's what I really want to do right now. Take my guitar and harps with me, in case I run into some grand people and play music, suck on some wine and dig some diamonds come mornin' time. So my friends is there anything your wishin' upon a star for? Peace, Rustic |

Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 29 Oct 03 - 07:14 AM Allan, that's very sweet - pass the Designated Sick Bucket please. I'd like to get my operation over and done with, win a couple of million on the lottery and move to a scout hut near the sea to set up a sewing business or just have the biggest front room in the county. Oh, and Sean Connery covered in chocolate. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Rustic Rebel Date: 29 Oct 03 - 10:52 AM A star wish for your scrotum, that sounds like a "high" wish to me! Liz, that sounds good to me also. Winning the lotto. Shoot I already had plans on where to spend the last 198 Million and then when I heard it was someone from Minnesota that won I thought for sure it was me but, alas it wasn't...this time. Hell I could have bought my own diamond mine. If we could all be like Allen C, In my Ford van, I would already be. I would cross through the states without a worry, No-where to go and not in a hurry. Ah..If we could all be like Allen C! Rustic |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: GUEST,Kim C no cookie Date: 29 Oct 03 - 12:14 PM I want to get into graduate school so I can get a better job where I don't have to push other people's freakin papers all the time. I want to drive a PT Cruiser. I want to buy a house. I want to get the new CD finished. Right now, this minute, if I could, I'd walk out of this office full of Dummkopfs, go home and grab my camera, my sketchbook, and my paints, and hit the highway to check out the Tennessee scenery that is so lovely this time of year. Actually, I get to do that this Saturday, along with some Christmas shopping. :-) |

Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: SINSULL Date: 29 Oct 03 - 05:54 PM "When You Wish Upon A Star" was written by the same man who wrote "Buddy, Can You Spare A Dime" which was banned from radio during the depression as depressing. Sorry, I can't remember his name. Crater Of Diamonds - that has been one of my "wish I had time to do it" spots. But I don't camp well. Any motels nearby? |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Bobert Date: 29 Oct 03 - 06:43 PM Okay, this outta be fun... 1. I would have loved to have played on the '79 Bullets Championship basketball team. Elvin Hayes, Bobby Dandridge, Phil Chanier. Hey, I wouldn't have minded if I was just the third guard off the bench... 2. Okay, my ragtag band, Thorn, open fir the Chambers Brothers once. I would rather have had them open for us... 3. I would been on cloud nine to have played a game of billiards (three balls and no pockets) with Willie Mosconni... 4. I would be quite content to have just one danged 1st place trophy on my shelf fir running in the mini-stock division in Richmond... 5. Oh yeah. And how about being in a toilet stall next to Richard Nixon and he asks you if he could borrow your toilet paper? Oh yeah! Let amke a deal... Okay, that outta do it. Actually, I wouldn't trade those dream fir the life I've had to this point... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Rustic Rebel Date: 29 Oct 03 - 07:00 PM Sinsull-Yes there is a few motels down there. Queen of Diamonds Inn, American Heritage Inn, and Little Shamrock Motel all on Washington Ave., near Murfreesboro. Now I suppose I would pick Queen of Diamonds Inn being I will be the Queen of diamond hunters when I get there! Sell toilet paper to Nixon. That would've been a good one. It's like a long lost plan I once had to blow up all the toilets in the Pentagon and fly in satelites and toilet paper vendors to charge at a fairly outrageous but standard, government fee. |

Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: katlaughing Date: 29 Oct 03 - 11:01 PM Great thread, RR! Right at this minute? I'd like my son-in-law to get a job in his field that he'd be really happy at and paid well. Ditto for two of my sisters. For myself, I'd like the publisher to call me up, gushing with acceptance and asking how much of an advance I'd like!*bg* I'd like a new bathtub, shower surround, and kitchen floor with a back porch added on.:-) Actually I'd like to build a whole new house of flying concrete. Barring that, I'd like a big RV with nooks and crannies for all of the cats and the money to go on the road for about 6 months, visiting all of you, with my Rog! |

Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Benjamin Date: 30 Oct 03 - 01:17 AM Nice Try Bobert! You're thinking of the 78 Washington Bullets! In 79, justice was served and the Seattle Sonics BEAT the Bullets in the finals. They had one heck of a group themselves! Denis Johnson, Fred Brown, Jack Sikma, Gus Williams. Would of been great to play on that squad, but I wasn't yet born. As for me, I'd like to get my career started (won't happen too soon though). I'd also like to grow some wings and learn how to fly! |

From: Ebbie Date: 31 Oct 03 - 09:53 PM "I would be quite content to have just one danged 1st place trophy on my shelf fir running in the mini-stock division in Richmond..." Bobert, you got me confoosed. Isn't it you that rails against the mentality of those who watch the cars go 'round and 'round? That flying concrete, kat, is most interesting. If I had the money I'd build a partly subterranean house on a naturally terraced hillside I own in Oregon. I'd want lots of skylights and secret exits and a grassy patio on top. Wouldn't that be fun! Take a look at the Annexe- there's been a subject running on winning the lottery. |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: katlaughing Date: 01 Nov 03 - 01:09 AM Ebbie, one of those flying concrete houses was only about $5,000! I'd love to have one! kat |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Thomas the Rhymer Date: 01 Nov 03 - 03:35 PM Especially in So. Cal., where the vast majority of homes would be still standing... If only they had the sense to build out of stone and concrete... instead of 'biome reducing' wood. Certainly makes sense from many climate considerations in the S.W. too... ttr |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Rustic Rebel Date: 02 Nov 03 - 12:03 AM I was just checking out some of that concrete siding for houses that is out there. It looks like wood siding after a coat of stain is applied. I wonder if that is made with a lightweight concrete? That is another thing I would like to do, is some massive concrete sculpture in my herb garden. I think that would be a fun and interesting project. |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Nigel Parsons Date: 02 Nov 03 - 12:06 PM "When You wish upon a star" is familiar from "Pinocchio", but the 'wishing on a star' bit is not common folklore (as far as I know) in the UK. The only time I have seen the rhyme in print prior to this was in a "Peanuts" (Schultz) cartoon. Assuming it's new to other UK catters, I place it here (for correction or comment) although it should probably appear in one of the numerous Children's rhymes' threads. 'Star light, star bright, First star I see tonight. I wish I may, wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight.' Nigel |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: GUEST,shelley c at work Date: 05 Nov 03 - 09:13 AM Nigel My mum taught me that rhyme when I was a very little girl (must have been early 60's). I don't know when Peanuts started, but we certainly didn't have it in the UK at that time. I don't know where Mum heard it from. Shelley |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Nov 03 - 10:42 AM I've known this rhyme from childhood too. My wish - just over seven years ago I found the one person I would like to live the rest of my life with. Unfortunately the feeling isn't reciprocated. I wish that I could get past the feeling and move on. |
Subject: RE: BS: When you wish upon a star... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 05 Nov 03 - 12:47 PM I don't have anything to wish for. I'm only posting because I thought the thread title was "When you sit upon a star...". Only mentioning it because of the time I did sit on a star. Well, actually, it was a star-shaped Christmas tree ornament that had been left on the sofa. Made me wish I had sat someplace else. When you sit upon a star You'll find how sharp they are... Bruce |
