I imagine hearing just that fragment might be kind of like listening to "Small, Small World." Your wife could say worse things to you, ya know....
You'll find the rest of the lyrics at the International Lyrics Serveror Cowpie. These sources are wrong in attributing the song to Dolly Parton, though. Words and music were written in 1971 by Delaney Bramlett, of Delaney and Bonnie fame.

Well, Earl, there are actually four verses, but they're almost all the same except that they substitute verbs - just put in "sing," "got," and "have" wherever you'd like. Officially, though, Verses 1 and 2 are identical - they start with I've got and end with I'd have. Verses 3 and 4 start with I've got and end with "I'd sing my never-ending song of love to you." The bridge, (after all this time...) goes after verses 2 and 3. I like this kind of song, because I can actually get through the whole thing without screwing up the lyrics too bad.....

Neither of those versions sound right to me. I never was a fan of Delaney and Bonnie (listening to other stuff about then) and I certainly can't recall it by Dolly Parton. So who? ~~ Dickie Lee, maybe?

Am I correct in recalling that the recording of this song had a lot of background noise, like the restaurant songs that served as the background for the Trini Lopez recordings?
I suppose it's corny and all, but I've always kinda liked this song for some reason. I suppose "pseudo-folk bubblegum music" might be a pretty good description of the style.
But heck, it's catchy.

Nowhere above or in COWPIE did I see where the song was posted as haven been written by Dolly Parton.... The Poster ONLY listed it as the DOLLY PARTON version.

Dickie did this in a different chord but i like it better in D.
