Whoops, sorry Malcolm. Every Wednesday at the Brocklesby Hunt at Goxhill, instrumental session augmented by sandwiches. Now that is it for the list of sessions!

..........and that pub idea is a good one, jOhn, but the word on the street is that the Six Bells went for half a million quid. Allegedly.

LOL Malcolm, and embarrasingly true! Sound advice, too, about not mentioning a previous defeat. You are doing a sterling job with the session listing, so here's the definitive list for North Lincolnshire as far as I am aware. Last Sunday session at the Six Bells, and until we are possibly evicted, every Tuesday at the Six Bells. Quite what happens down Grimsby/Cleethorpes way I am unaware

jOhn, please will you PM Malcolm with your knowledge of what happens on the north bank, and support the work he's doing on the YFA website. Thanks, mate.

Just don't mention that you have ever been to, or heard of, the Nag's Head at Wooton. And do please keep us posted on developments, preferably in English. I'm trying to keep a reasonable listing for E Yorks/ N Lincs going on the YFA website, but it does seem to be a remarkably volatile area and I'm buggered if I can tell who most of those pseudonyms are. I suppose it's the usual Fen Country problem?

No, dony stop trying!
there is plenty flok people in , this area,
maybe we buy a pub, some pubs is leese get sold for cheep, ie 3 or 4 tousand, we make a whip rouind , and every prople put monet, and but a good sessdion pub, and tell all the music people to go, i had this idea before, and i tell some people, like bassic, and smallpiliers, .
and if you get enought people, then we only haf to pay about 500 pound each, we wont make any money, but we get a goof session pub, and waht you exepect for 5 00 quid, we all put money, to makea folk pub, and them with no job, like basic, and littlepliers, do turns behind yhe bar there, and other people like me and you. [i could do tuesday, as my day off is tuesday], just see how many is interseded, =
like i said, we wont make loads of money, BUT we get a session pub, and every body share it, all do waht they can etc, ,maybe 1 person knows about bookpeepimg, so he does thsat, 1 person knows abourt, booking babnds, punch the hoese, cara etc, so he does thast, 1 person knows about the law, fire exits, etc [eric ET, does that, everybody does there good thing they good at, ie, i think you are a buyer for a animal feed company, so you do the buying, negotiate the best price, for drinks etc, every other people do waht they can, every ex sloop sessioner has certain skills, lets use them!
if a barton area pub lease is for sale at [for example £5000], we only need 10 people putting in 500 quid, we work for no wages, till its busy, then share any profits 10 ways, or reinvest it in the pub, booking acts, etc.
giving up is no good, thats waht giving up people do!
not sure if any pubs in the area are for lease, but we sould look at The Morning Advertiser, and Daltons Weekly.
I ran a pub for 6 months, bassic has loads of licenced trade experience, etc.
we will never surrender!

I don't effing believe it. The landlord has been at the Six Bells since Methusalah was a lad, and we move there as a long term bet. Tonight I was told that someone wandered in off the street and offered some ridiculously large sum to buy the pub, and BANG, he's leaving on next Monday. Quite where that leaves us is unknown. The good news is that the pub has a PEL, the bad news is worse, in that it is the same pub chain 9allegegly) that bought and subsequently threw us out of the Nag's Head at Wootton. We have tried to resuscitate the Sloop session. Is everyone agreed that we stop trying?

Ploughflyer? - Thistle Dodger? - really, Greg, you've got to stop it, it will just send us all mad. Apart from that, it was a good session, and the place feels like home already. Let's hope the Barton/Sloop session (Barrow chapter) has found a long term home at last.

.....Well, assuming you mean th Six Bells, rather than the Quo, it went bally well!

You would've liked it particularly, Juan, as there was a surfeit of pipers, two in fact. Ploughflyer brought one of his mates, a Thistle Dodger, who played them smallpipes you favour, and he's a braw player, too. Other'n that, it was a fairly small gathering that struggled to wipe out the truly excellent sandwiches that were laid on. It was a good atmosphere, and we were made very much at home.

So it's a runner, even if the bogs aren't down to standard.

I'm afraid I'm going to be at Brid Spa, jumping around like a lunatic to melodic tunes as performed by that world renowned traditional folk group, Status Quo. Does that qualify as a sick note?

Pete.

feresh.

One of jOhn's other personas 9the one that spells correctly, constructs grammatically correct sentences and expunges 9s) admitted on Folkinfo that he didn't know where the Sloop session had relocated to. He does now.

First one tomorrow night. Shall we lure any north-bankers?

Having been one of the stalwarts at the George last night, I must say it's a pity to have to move again so soon. BUT the Six Bells is a welcoming venue and we have had some cracking sessions there. North bankers need not fear, it is only five minutes - or less - further away than the Barton venues. If this could become as good a home as the Sloop was, then it will all be fine. Wonder what the grub will be like...

Presumably - the Humber Bridge will be closed on the Tuesday evening to ensure the intelligentsia thread contingent from Hull will not be allowed to cross.

We have had to do some surgery to save the old Sloop session from dying, as it has not successfully survived the move from the Coach and Horses.

For those keen on UK pub session history, but not in possession of the facts, the Sloop Inn in Barton (sans) Upon (hyphens) Humber was the perfect location for a long-lasting and particularly successful mixed song and tune session that was eventually killed off by the outgoing PEL system, combined with landlord change.

Jo, the then manager of the Coach and Horses gave us a new home, and provided masses of really good grub, and the session's future seemed assured. However, she turned a failing pub around so successfully that the brewery allegedly bumped up the rent exponentially and she could no longer afford the pub. One of her last acts as manager was to find us a new home for the session at the George, and initially numbers held up.

However, the last few weeks has seen interest wane, and numbers have now dropped consistently below the level required for a viable session, as most bands have more members than we currently have sessioneers.

The concensus at last night's poor old do was that we had to move in order to attract some of our old regulars back, and that we had to find a pub with a PEL, and a sympathetic landlord who is likely to remain in office for some reasonable length of time. So we chose the Six Bells in Barrow Upon Humber, which is where we have had some cracking ad hoc Saturday night sessions, and subsequently the old Wootton session for the last several months. Barrow is three miles to the east of Barton, so shouldn't put folk off coming from near or far.

We also agreed that we would move the Barrow Last Sunday session to another venue, and that will hopefully be the Nelthorpe Arms in Brigg (aka Scanlons). That is still to be confirmed, and I will post updates as they happen.

I then called into see Jim in the Six Bells on my way home. There is a reasonably sizeable session room there that accommodates listeners as well as musicians (which includes singers!). He was delighted at the decision, and is up for seeing us next Sunday for the last of the Sunday sessions, and then again on Tuesdays in perpetuity. He will also provide some grub for the sessioneers, so please turn out in force to secure this venue as a long-term session.

See you next week!
