Subject: Tune: Burns's

Hi, Y'all! I'm looking for the tune to Robert Burns's "Oh Whistle and I'll Come to You My Lad." I'm a Laura Ingalls Wilder fan, and found the song refered to in one of her "Little House" books. I have a copy of the lyrics (turned out they were in a book of Robert Burns poetry I already had ), but I still need a tune. Is there a midi for this song on-line?

Sincerely, Mary Tickel

Dear Dulcimer, It's mentioned in "These Happy Golden Years." Laura sang the chorus "Whistle and I'll come to you my lad...", after which 'Manly asked her, "Would you?" "Of course not! It's just a song."' (From Chapt. 20; "Nellie Olsen")

As for the Burns, I found the lyrics in "The Essential Burns", edited by Robert Creeley (1989).

Sincerely, Mary Tickel

See "Irish Lover's Morning Walk" in the Irish tune titles index on my website for several copies of the tune under various titles. Beside the sources listed there, the tune is given in James Dick's 'The Songs of Robert Burns' as well as in Kinsley's Burns, #420.
