Popular arts critic Ralph Gleason of the SF Chronicle once called this song the best country song of the year despite the fact that country stations wouldn't play it (it got a fair amount of play on FM rock stations, however). It was written by George Frayne and Billy C Farlow and recorded by George (Commander Cody) and his Lost Planet Airmen.

DOWN TO SEEDS AND STEMS AGAIN BLUES
Billy C Farlow, George Frayne

I'm sitting at home Saturday night watchin' the late late show,
With a bottle of wine, some cigarettes; I got no place to go.
I saw your other man today, wearin' my brand new shoes,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

I saw my old friend Bob today, from up in Bowlin' Green.
He had the prettiest little gal that I have ever seen.
I could not hide my tears at all, 'cause she looked just like you,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

BRIDGE: Now everybody tells me
There's lots of other ways to get high,
But they don't seem to understand,
I'm too far gone to try.

My dog died just yesterday, and left me all alone.
The finance company came by today, and repossessed my home,
But that's just a drop in the bucket, dear, compared to losing you,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

(After an instrumental break of the bridge and the first two lines of the last verse:)
These lonely memories are all that I can't lose,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.
I've got the Down to Seeds and Stems Again Blues.

I've changed the order a bit from the way it was recorded: in the original, the lines "These lonely memories are all that I can't lose,/And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too" came right after the bridge, omitting the first harmonic lines of the verse. I've gone for a more symmetrical structure than the original. I'll post the harmonic structure later.

Harmonic structure for the above:

.../C.../E.../F.../C..
./C.../E.../F.../C..
./A.../G.../F.../C..
./G.../F.../C.../.

.../C.../E.../F.../C..
./C.../E.../F.../C..
./A.../G.../F.../C..
./G.../F.../C.../.

(bridge)
.../F.../C..
./F.../C..
./F.../CEAmin
./D7.../G7.../.

.../C.../E.../F.../C..
./C.../E.../F.../C..
./A.../G.../F.../C..
./G.../F.../C.../.
(./G.../F.../C.../C...)

Again, the way I play it is with an instrumental break beginning with the bridge, through the first two lines of the last verse, sing the "These lonely memories are all that I can't lose. And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too," adding the "I've got the down to seeds and stems again Blues."
