Subject: Ron Truman-Border From: breezy Date: 02 Feb 04 - 08:40 AM Fast emerging singe-songwrtiter from North Kent way He's on a busy schedule this year judging by his gig list, more gigs than bob Fox for this time of year!! He'll be in St Albans on Friday 6th Feb at the St Albans Folk-song club at the King Harry. Singing his own compositions with a hint of Dylan/Clapton but unquestionably himself. great guitar riffs, rhythms, rymes and contrasts. Doors open 7.45 with full supporting acts. Lets rock Urban blues - Orpington style |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Moses Date: 02 Feb 04 - 08:49 AM I gather from your description, Breezy, he is going to be real hot stuff! |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Dave Bryant Date: 02 Feb 04 - 09:18 AM Fast Emerging ? - Ron is too laid back to do anything fast, Breezy :-) |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: The Barden of England Date: 02 Feb 04 - 09:20 AM Ron writes some truly great songs. If you've not seen him before just go - he's great |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Nemesis Date: 02 Feb 04 - 01:37 PM His agent keeps ringing for a booking ... have seen Ron a couple of times ... it's not my cup of tea but very popular with many I know who've seen him. I did think the last demo I heard "Ex-tracks" was very listenable in a non-demanding way... So, yeah, go and enjoy. The only way to find out these things is go and hear - otherwise acts never get a break unless we (the audience) are prepared to take a chance! |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Richard Bridge Date: 02 Feb 04 - 04:07 PM Maximum respect to R T-B but although he is a good performer you get an even better perspective on his songwriting when you hear the way some other artists "work" his songs. If the songs are so strong that they can assume a new and greater life when hewn by other carvers, there must be some greatness in there. In that respect he reminds me of Dylan - in that many of the best realisations of Dylan songs were by others - for example the Nice's "She belongs to me". Both the Barden of England and the Wild Rover do some stonking versions of R T-B originals. |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Ned Ludd Date: 02 Feb 04 - 07:20 PM Good to hear this, as we've got him booked at the General Ludd on friday march 5th, and I'd not seen him live! |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Dave Bryant Date: 03 Feb 04 - 05:07 AM Vin Garbutt sings a couple of Ron's songs. Breezy - if Ron brings his biggest fan, Sue Tuckey - be sure to put her on for a song spot - she has a similiar singing style to Maureen who used to go to the old Catford Club :-) |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: breezy Date: 03 Feb 04 - 10:09 AM I know, I met em when I played the friday club at the Liberal. I'm open Fridays, some sats and every Sunday now. Got Tommy Sands on 2nd April Cockersdale May 21st |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: breezy Date: 04 Feb 04 - 05:48 AM This Friday: R T-B |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: GUEST,North Kentish Man Date: 04 Feb 04 - 07:42 AM He writes some great songs, but his own performance of them is so dead-pan with no variation in delivery, that round our way he's usually referred to as Ron Truly-Boring - Yawn - wake me up when he's finished. |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: breezy Date: 04 Feb 04 - 10:57 AM Stay as a Guest cos you just jealous cos he's doing O K and appreciated away from home turf he's 'cool' St Albans is live with Music So you want an extrovert entertainer to keep you interested cos you lose concentration too easily. Hey you ought to come to one of my gigs, no dozing off when I'm on. |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Singing Referee Date: 04 Feb 04 - 11:52 AM Ouch, North Kentish Man! Please find someone else's thread on which to sharpen your claws. Ref. |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Hamish Date: 04 Feb 04 - 02:10 PM No - fair play - if you put up a thread with this title you're asking for comment: good or bad. He may be wrong of course (however you judge a subjective thing like that...) |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: breezy Date: 04 Feb 04 - 02:39 PM play to the whistle. Aint 'home' fans a pain in the a..e. Typical English attitude 'knock your own' |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: GUEST Date: 06 Feb 04 - 02:43 AM So I'm thinking maybe I should popalong and check him out then... ...am I too late to get a floor spot? |

Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: GUEST, Hamish, lost cookie Date: 06 Feb 04 - 08:55 AM Oops! - that was me up there as GUEST about the spot. Thing is I can subvert the Mudcat being blocked by my work, but I can't do that AND keep my cookie enabled... |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: GUEST,The Stage Manager Date: 06 Feb 04 - 09:35 AM Did Breezy really say that? "Hey you ought to come to one of my gigs, no dozing off when I'm on." No fear of that, right enough! SM |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: breezy Date: 06 Feb 04 - 12:08 PM Welcome back S M I've missed your perceptive observations lately. Tuesday 10th Geo and me at the King Harry 8.45 In that case Hamish, make it 7.15 is it for a run thru for Monday? |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Hamish Date: 06 Feb 04 - 01:36 PM Phew - I'll struggle for that early but I'll see what I can manage... |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: breezy Date: 06 Feb 04 - 08:40 PM Well done Hamish you were very classy R T-B certainly NOT laid back dynamic, jumping around all over the place, chatting to Betty, constant change of pace and tempo, mood and humour. everyone enjoyed it, like a breath of fresh air yet with a hint of familiarity, straight ,melodic and appealing, no frills, loads of choruses that were singable and involved everyone with his grande finale. A good evenings entertainment Next Week Heraud and Turner in the St Stephens church Hall for the best in harmony singing. See new thread later. Good to see the S M back with us , I'll await his comments. |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Nemesis Date: 07 Feb 04 - 04:56 AM NOrth Kentish Man .. glad you said not me ... :) I've seen Ron when he's assembled a band around him and it works then ie entertaining for an audience - but for the audience I need to book artists for, I'd never consider him solo. Horses for courses ... There are other clubs locally who think he's fab (different audiences) .. but then again, (sorry to his agent n all that) but that's another reason not to book him - there's only so much artist-saturation vs audience takeup within a limited geographic area. Ron occupies a particular niche and that's fine! I think his determination to succeed is laudable and many musicians could learn a lot from his rigourous pursuit of work. |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Hamish Date: 07 Feb 04 - 10:14 AM Classy? Very Classy? Moi? I blush... Ron was good entertainment. pa helped. |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: The Stage Manager Date: 07 Feb 04 - 11:31 AM Hellfire, if that is laid back, I can't wait to see RTB seriously fired up! I'd definitely have to wear my dancing boots. Thought some of his songs were spot on. All this and Hamish too. When you say "very classy" Breezy which particular class did you have in mind? SM |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: breezy Date: 07 Feb 04 - 02:28 PM Thanks chaps Legion on Sunday King Harry Tuesday St Stephens on Friday Watch out for NEW venue for Les Sullivan The wandering continues S M |

Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Tim Leaning Date: 23 Oct 08 - 04:10 PM I have seen him acouple of times and I enjoyed em both. But even if I hadnt he does what he does well so maybe he aint boring maybe you just prefer something different but equaly good? |

Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: GUEST,Suzi Z Date: 25 Oct 08 - 03:44 AM Delightful club the Sunray..well done Bob..and all the very best for it's successful continuance ..Lovely atmosphere with great acoustics and candles ( woman's perspective) I'm also slightly biased as I won a bottle of Red in the raffle. Thanks for being so very welcoming and to the floor singer performers in their own right and for coming and joining Ron on a couple of numbers at the end...and as ever to George..like the new look beard by the way ...very dashing !! Ron's back down in Dorset tonight at The Square and Compass in Worth Matravers ...unique little music pub ..with a mini museum attached ..then back up to Lincolnshire for the Gainsborough Festival Sunday evening ...phew!!! |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Tim Leaning Date: 25 Oct 08 - 01:09 PM "I have put Ron on a couple of times at Faldingworth Live and on both occasions, he went down really well." OH dear do all your performers have to go so far for a gig? hhhhmmmmmm |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Spot Date: 25 Oct 08 - 02:34 PM Hallooo everybody... RTB... Hmmmm.... Nice player...good songs... Englishman with American accent.... I personally feel he would be much better off without it... imvho... I can't understand why so many English singers do it..... Regards to all..... Spot :-) |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 25 Oct 08 - 03:01 PM I've never noticed the American accent. I always thought Ron sang in the same accent as he speaks. Mind you he does a couple of Buddy Holly tributes where he may do so for effect - yhere again, you've now got me thinking, I'll have to listen closely next time. |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Tim Leaning Date: 25 Oct 08 - 04:09 PM I thought he sounded sort of Norfolky. |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Spot Date: 25 Oct 08 - 04:11 PM Halllooo again, all... Maybe its cos I'm from the North..!! ;-) (I talk like a refugee from the Hovis ads as a matter of course!!) I just think the Americans do their accent so much better than anyone else, as do I mine ...!! I love it a la bluegrass etc..( can you imagine Big Mon singing in Lanky dialect??) but English is English for me..!! I have a bit of a prob with English "Dylan-ism" too..it's almost as if we're ashamed of our accent... I'm proud of mine and would feel totally stupid trying to sing in anything else!! I did actually come away from a four -piece band cos I felt that's where we were heading!! Please note this is only my opinion - I have no wish to set any cats among any pigeons or seriously criticise any performers... Right - pass the Tobermory!! ;-) Regards to all, as ever.... Spot :-) |
Subject: RE: Ron Truman-Border From: Girl Friday Date: 25 Oct 08 - 06:20 PM You see George...I'm not the only one who can't write to your phatts address! |
