Hello, friends, what a nice surprise! Thank you all for the good wishes. Fergus, you have an amazing memory. Now as it happens I will actually be in Ireland for a few days (Feb. 21-24), in Clare. I can't remember where you're located. Let me know, it would be lovely to meet you if possible. Hello Jon, good to hear from you! It's true I have been away from Paltalk for such a long time, but it warms my heart just thinking of hearing you play and sing, and of course DW too. DW, for my birthday (it's one of those BIG birthdays, if you know what I mean...) I am getting some recording equipment so I hope to have more (or any) news to report on that front within a reasonable amount of time. I hope you're still at it, too! I've probably begun to wear out the CD equivalent of grooves on your wonderful record...

Thanks again, one and all, for your happy birthday wishes! It's important to stay cheerful when you're turning--uh--21... so thank you for keeping me cheerful. As part of the celebration I will be going to hear a concert by one of my favorite (not folk) singers, Frederica Von Stade, so I'd say music is the defining acharacter of this particular birthday. Yes, Mudlark, I am really looking forward to this as I have never had the opportunity to see her in concert before. I am spellbound by her recording of Mahler's Ruckert-Lieder and the Songs of a Wayfarer with the London Symphony Orchestra. I am still moved to tears hearing her sing "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen..." though I have been listening to it for more than twenty years. I will think of you (and YOUR lovely voice!) when I go on Friday. Margaret
