I want to ask opinions of all you longertimers, what kind of things are looked for in the profiles section? I mean, should I tell the absolute truth? Is a well thought-out piece of fiction acceptable if it makes you chuckle? Or elaboration, like future, past, present accomplishments? Am I looking to impress, or scare the bejiggers out of you? Will I be judged? Should I care?..xx..e

This is thread number 2398562985645 on this topic... :-)

Put in there what ever you want others to read, but think about it first and decide if that is what you REALLY want to have there.

You choose.

Robin

Whoops, foolstroupe! I didn't know I was repeating something too well blabbed about before. I'll take your advice, and anyone else who feels the same, thanks, and go read some other threads..xx..e

Actually, I was trying to be cute - seriously - YOU decide what YOU want there - add or leave out what you want - how do you want others to see you?

Ellenpoly - Just have a look at what the rest of us have put up. You
can put a complete fiction or your complete biography, its up to you.
As far as I am concerned I like to see what,if anything, people I have met in chat have to say for themselves, like where they are and what they play and sing.

Hey ellenpoly ... If you'll add an extra ten bucks for next month's membership dues, I'll be glad to write your bio for you! Maybe I could serialize it and make it last for weeks. (hee hee) Bob

I'd say pretty much anything goes, Ellenpoly. There's a thread here now devoted to the size of a Mudcat member's penis. Kinda hard to draw lines after that. I think trying to make it more interesting is a good way to go, but dry and factual will work too.

A profile is fine, but a frontal view makes your nose look smaller.

So sorry folks. I am not as dim as I appear to be. Well then again, maybe I am. Figured out how to send pics, and even found the nude ones Deckman referred to in my other thread. Yup, arty as hell, as you'll see, thanks to Spencer Tunick and Co. Reading all the profiles now, and pretty much think I'll opt for humour, and lies...xx..e

Hey Ellenpoly ... Don't forget to list ALL your past loves. That alone will boost membership! Please notice that I said past "LOVES," not lovers. If we all had to list our past lovers, this website would probably lose it's family rating! Bob

Ellenpoly...since we have done two "Nude for Mudcat" fundraising calendars, it's unlikely you will get 'too' much reaction, unless the pics are beyond 'arty'..*grin*...

I've never posted a profile because I honestly can't imagine that anyone would care to read it. Pictures of me are available in the Photo section as well as the Events subsection. My current geographical info is listed in the Mudcat Locator and my birthday is listed on the Birthdays page. I'm not famous and don't have any CD's to sell. The story of my life, as it has happened since my first post, can be found within my subsequent postings. Insight into my sense of humor, my personality, the things I find interesting or important can all be found there as well. So why would I bother putting up a profile? I suppose these are the same reasons I've never created a website.

I know what I've just said is subjective; but it may give you something to think about regarding your own profile.

Oh, almost forgot: Any member can send me a Personal Message, (PM) whenever they want. My email address is readily available in the Email index. Songs I have written are in Áine's Mudcat Songbook. Plus, you can chat with me in the Mudchat from time to time. What more is needed? Perhaps the more important question is: Why?

..and since I can't let Amos post more often to this thread than me, you can put a link to your webpage there too. 'The Fooles Troupe' is hopefully explained by one of those links...

Remember: be careful what you ask for, you may get more than you expect...

Robin

Allan C has no CDs to sell? Gee, I have hundreds.
Mostly AOL & Compuserve, but a few others come my way, all going cheap to any that wants 'em.

DH, the AOL disks make fairly good coasters for putting under cold drinks and such - but you probably knew that.

For some reason, I'm having more trouble with this that I thought. I really do thank you all for your helpful hints, and not so helpful, but funny as hell thoughts. There's something to be said about letting each posting reveal something new to the whole picture of a person, but then again, if some subjects, like one's favorite dining experience while being tied to a railroad trestle never comes up, how exactly does one slip that into a conversation?
At any rate, I'm impressed with reading your profiles, and if I were the type to have an easily damaged ego, I'd be hard put to keep up with those of you who are recording and websiting, and generally procreating your talents left right and centre. Jeez, amazing you find time to write here at all!..xx..e

The original intent of the profiles was to give free information about/advertising for those of our number who make their living from the music, but might not have their own websites. It was a service that was also made available to any members who wanted to give more personal info than the photo, email, & locator sections offered. Profiles, as well as the other features, were originally on my son's website, so that if Mudcat went down, they'd still be available. All features were conceived & designed by my son &, for the 1st year & a half or so, were maintained by me.

best,

bbc
