Subject: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: GUEST,09085623 Date: 11 Mar 04 - 12:59 PM "Today I spoke to His Majesty the King of Spain -- Jose Maria Aznar" PRIME MINISTER, you blethering fool... What's the betting Al Quaeda stood behind it?? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Chief Chaos Date: 11 Mar 04 - 02:17 PM I watched him yesterday at a presentation to a women's group. The whole thing was aired on CNN with the stock ticker running on the bottom and the Dow and nasdaq numbers on the side. As he discussed the improving economy the dow kept dropping. He kept talking and the Dow kept dropping. Maybe if we play his speeches backward the economy will improve? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Amergin Date: 11 Mar 04 - 02:22 PM He's made so many blunders that I'm surprised they're even newsworthy anymore.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Jim McCallan Date: 11 Mar 04 - 02:34 PM It reminds me of a passage in Oliver Sacks book 'The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat', where a group of aphasiacs were watching Reagan give a speech on the television. Uncontrolled sniggering and laughter started to break out among the patients, and when asked later by Sacks, why they were laughing, they pointed out that his facial expressions and body language didn't match his tone of voice. They reckoned that he wasn't sincere, and though this to be a matter of great jollity. Everybody in the Spanish Government is blaming ETA for this series of bombs in Madrid, but others are suspecting that this is an Al Queada action, significant in the respect that it is the first real attack made on members of the 'Coalition' in Europe. Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Peace Date: 11 Mar 04 - 02:58 PM So, I wonder what spin Senora Bush will put on his gaffe? Jaysus, if he had more than two balls he'd get confused. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Amergin Date: 11 Mar 04 - 03:00 PM Well if he'sa senora....he doesn't have any balls....so maybe that's why he's so confused? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Peace Date: 11 Mar 04 - 03:01 PM Genius, pure genius. That's what it is! Join the "BALLS FOR BUSH" campaign. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: GUEST,heric Date: 11 Mar 04 - 03:03 PM Well I'm certainly confused. But this seems to be an opening to use my new joke about a female to male transexual operation being called an "addadictomy." But I forget how it goes. Give me a while. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Peace Date: 11 Mar 04 - 03:03 PM Trade in your old balls for Bush. Has a nice ring to it: Balls for Bush; Balls for Bush; Balls for Bush. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: GUEST Date: 11 Mar 04 - 03:06 PM Spain's 9/11? Or should we just call it '3/11' |

Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Amergin Date: 11 Mar 04 - 03:23 PM Maybe he was daydreaming about being king...and got confused when he got shook out of his reverie? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: GUEST,Jim McCallan (09085623 ) Date: 11 Mar 04 - 03:35 PM Al Qud, an Arabic newspaper just announced it has a letter claiming that Al Queada were indeed behind this attack. 190 dead, over 1000 injured. One would have thought that Bush would have got his condolences worded properly.. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: katlaughing Date: 11 Mar 04 - 03:46 PM Infuckingcredible idiot is what he is! That's a small blunder, though, compared to what's cooking in the "tell all" dept. about this administration, as I posted in another thread: I didn't want to start another pol. thread, so would like to urge everyone to take a look at this breaking article at Salon, in which an Air Force veteran officer explains how the shrubites cooked the books when it came to WMD's, as we all *knew:* click here. This comes from www.moveon.org where, if one is interested, they may read what action is being taken on the part of moveon members concerning this. It really is worth reading. kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: GUEST,pdc Date: 11 Mar 04 - 04:38 PM Oh Kat!! That's funny -- I just linked to the same Salon article on the Canada Free Ride thread. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Kim C Date: 11 Mar 04 - 05:11 PM Guest, would you be so kind as to provide an actual source for said blunder? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Stilly River Sage Date: 11 Mar 04 - 05:30 PM I loved Kerry's candid opinion caught yesterday when he spoke near a mike he didn't know was on. "We're going to keep pounding. We're just beginning to fight here. These guys are the most crooked, lying group I've ever seen. It's scary." It has been said that the Bush folks were not amused. :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: GUEST Date: 11 Mar 04 - 05:38 PM It has been all over the news bulletins in Europe, Kim C, but The White House Home Page has it, also: Here! |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: GUEST,pdc Date: 11 Mar 04 - 05:51 PM I believe Spain has a Prime Minister and a King, Juan Carlos. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Jim McCallan Date: 11 Mar 04 - 05:56 PM Which 'him' did he tell, in that case, that 'we weep with the families'? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Kim C Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:07 PM Here is the exact quote from the White House page: "Today I spoke to His Majesty the King of Spain -- Jose Maria Aznar, as well..." Now, I don't know if the transcriptionists did some clever spinning or not, but what that statement says to me, is that he spoke to the King AND to Mr. Aznar. AS WELL usually means IN ADDITION TO. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Jim McCallan Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:10 PM You should watch the television of it, Kim C, and see where the pregnant pause was. As I said, which 'him' would he have been referring to, in that case? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Peace Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:13 PM When I posted above, it was before I saw or heard any news today. I apologize to any 'catters who are offended. I still think Bush is an idiot, but I certainly wouldn't ride on the horrible events in Madrid to say so. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Jim McCallan Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:14 PM Bush doesn't mind doing it, though... |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: GUEST,pdc Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:18 PM Well of course Bush is an idiot. That's why we have to point out when he accidentally does something correctly. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Jim McCallan Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:21 PM LOL |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Kim C Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:26 PM If he didn't acknowledge the tragedy, people would complain about that and say he was being callous and disrespectful. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Jim McCallan Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:30 PM And whether you understand the gravity of it, or not, Kim C, this indeed is Europe's (first) 9/11, and President Bush, who remember coerced the rest of the world to go fight a war on his behalf, could have seen to have been a little more genuine when he made the 6 line statement to the population of a country that stood beside him in his time of need. He could have sounded a little less unsure of himself... |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Peace Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:31 PM Kim C: the man has poor writers, and he ain't too swift either. He referred to the Prime Minister of Canada--when he was tring to enlist our support for the Iraq war--by the wrong name. He was not in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. First, ya get the facts; then, ya talk. Bush should try that. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Jim McCallan Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:34 PM Do American presidents have little earpieces, like newscasters do, where they can be prompted, if necessary? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Greg F. Date: 11 Mar 04 - 06:42 PM They're called TelePrompters; Ronnie RayGun would only have been able to stand in front of the cameras and drool without one. Guess Dumbya is such a sorry piece of s--- he can't even read his pre-prepared lines. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: manitas_at_work Date: 12 Mar 04 - 11:36 AM It is by no means Europe's first "9/11" though I can't remember such a large number of people being killed in Europe as a result of terrorism since Lockerbie. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: katlaughing Date: 12 Mar 04 - 11:42 AM pdc, lol, I've linked it in a couple of other threads, too. It seems so important! |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Amos Date: 12 Mar 04 - 11:46 AM He did say "as well" -- it is almost as though he stuck it in as a quick-thinking afterthought to save the gaffe. But I doubt he is quick-thinking. I think he sounds nervous and desperate. Just mho. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Little Hawk Date: 12 Mar 04 - 12:28 PM I'd be nervous and desperate too, if I was him. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: jaze Date: 12 Mar 04 - 12:46 PM It ocurred 911 days after 9/11. Very strange. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Frankham Date: 12 Mar 04 - 01:43 PM What is significant here is that Bush doesn't care. If he did he would have been more careful but he doesn't care if he's a statesman or not. His mispronunciation of words is a form of showing contempt for the Eastern Ivy League intellectuals (like Nixon). He's a graduate of Harvard Business School and Yale and knows how to talk when he wants to. But people identify with his misprounounced words. It's a political device to get people who are "anti-egghead" on his side. as he says, "don't misunderestimate" him. He's clever that way. Gore learned the hard way. Frank |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: GUEST,Casual Observer Date: 12 Mar 04 - 03:09 PM It's a good thing all of you have perfect grammar and never forget anyone's name. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Metchosin Date: 12 Mar 04 - 03:20 PM Casual Observer, most of us don't aspire to be president of the most powerful nation on earth. Or is this another way of saying even the least among us would have more than a snowball's chance in hell to aspire to the "esteemed" office. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Nerd Date: 12 Mar 04 - 04:59 PM Frank is right. I saw an analysis once that showed that Bush began to say "Nookyular" when running for Governor of Texas. Before that, he pronounced the word correctly as "Nuclear." |
Subject: RE: BS: Bush Makes Another Blunder From: Little Hawk Date: 12 Mar 04 - 06:33 PM That is clever. American politicians have long resorted to the "just plain folks" variety of utter blarney in order to get more votes. For a hilarious send-up of that kind of nonsense read the novel "Orange Crush" about a fictional gubernatorial election in Florida. The various candidates try to outdo each other in folksy backwoods lingo, knee-jerk declarations about 'getting tough on crime', accusations of their opponents being 'soft on crime', and other manipulative stuff like that which has nothing to do with their actual intentions and everything to do with just getting elected. It's a farce. The saps who go out and vote for these people evidently get the government they deserve. By the way, watch out for any political movement that despises intellectuals and "liberals". They are invariably movements dedicated to enslaving and robbing an ignorant and ill-informed electorate. The Fascists, Nazis, and Stalinists all despised intellectuals and liberals. So did the Maoists. So does any dictator. Pol Pot had all intellectuals and liberals rounded up and killed. That should tell you something. - LH |
