From CNN:

"Dick Cheney savaged Kerry's record on national security issues, saying the four-term senator from Massachusetts has provided "ample doubt" about his readiness to lead the nation."

Yeah I'm right with you there Dick,
After all he drove two businesses into the ground...wait, wrong guy

Uh, yeah he is/was an alcoholic with a DUI...wait, wrong guy again,

uh, yeah he joined the Nat'l Guard to avoid going to Vietnam and then walked out on the program because he didn't "feel like flying" anymore...wait..still the wrong guy.

How is it that they have strong doubts about Kerry yet they are on the current Pres. side?

IT's a genetic malformation, CC.

CC,

you nearly have printed the response yourself.

In your last sentence, make the question mark after 'Kerry' and replace 'yet' by 'because'.

Wolfgang

How is it that they have strong doubts about Kerry?

Because Kerry didn't support Iraq War I (which arguably was a legal war, due to Hussein's invasion of Kuwait, UN backing for retaliation, a genuine international coalition), then supported Iraq War II (which had none of the legitimacy, and much illegitimacy), but voted against funding it.

That does raise a valid question as to when Kerry considers it legitimate to use military force.

And why did Hussein invade Kuwait? To take back that part of Iraq that was taken from them after WW2. Bush the first sent his ambassador over there to talk with Saddam and told him, in effect that we don't care what he does.
Dean Acheson made the same mistake in Korea. "We have no interest in Korea" all they wanted to do was put the country back together too.

I just don't know if JFK can physically
last out the 7-8 months until the election.
He looks tired already.

Uh, Bill T

do you REALLY think that Dick Cheney would have fewerdoubts about Kerry if he supported Iraq I and did not support Iraq II? No. That may be why YOU have doubts about Kerry, but not why W's supporters do.

Kendall,

Indeed the US Ambassador told Hussein that we had no opinion on his "border dispute" with Kuwait. Good point.

Kerry is not helping his own cause.    In reponse to the latest Bush ads accusing him of voting against the 87 billion dollar funding of the troops Kerry responded "what Bush didn't tell you was that I voted for that bill before I voted against it"    Bush has now included that line in his commercial.

It's bad enough when Bush accuses Kerry of waffling on the issues.   It is worse when Kerry is bragging about it.

Don't worry, I'm not a fan of the Bush/Cheney team. I was just commenting that Kerry is vulnerable on the issue of his votes for use of military force vis a vis Iraq.

Didn't Kerry vote for an earlier form of the bill, when a good sized chunk of it that was intended for Iraq reconstruction ($20 billion?) was in the form of loans and there was a mechanism built in to fund it, but then against it when that part was changed to grants and the entire $87 billion was made off-budget (i.e., a direct addition to the deficit)? My recollection may be a bit hazy, but that's what I remember.

But the flagon with the dragon has the brew that is true... (sorry, that was a little hard to follow, not that my posts are always clear)

Apparently he voted for an amendment to the bill, but never for the actual bill itself. One of the major tools of Congress is amending a bill with provisions that are so despised by the bills proponents, even they help vote the bill down. That's can't count, it's effectively a vote against the bill.

See http://slate.msn.com/id/2097369/ for a discussion on the slanders being perpetrated by the incumbent machine. I hope Kerry fiunds as much strength he needs to fight back, war chest or no.

This is what I've been talkin' about with Kerry. If he's gonna win he's gonna have to distance himself from Bush. He needs to say that attacking Iraq was wrong. He needs to say that Bush embelished intellegence to sell the war. He needs to say that his initial vote was based on lies that were told to Congress, the world and the American people... Then he needs to look as presidential and look in the camera and say, "When you're on the wrong road you have to have the wisdom to get off it!"

Anything less and it will be four more years of Hell on Earth and very possibly the end of our republic...

Bobert

Agreed, Bobert. Kerry is going to have to spell out quite clearly when he would use military force, and when he wouldn't. His votes in this regard are all over the map. The Bush campaign owns the issue right now, so Kerry is going to have to come up with a foolproof position to counter these sorts of attacks.

I have NO doubts about Kerry at all! It's a lovely place...nice people, great beer, wonderful craic. Dingle, Tralee, Ardfert, Killarney, Kenmare.... Great place.

True but if you drive the Ring of Kerry, be sure you know which direction you should go in. All those lorries on that narrow road, you want to be sure you're going their way.

So what your saying is that the poison is in the chalice with the picture of the palace? Ah.. it is all so clear to me now. They forgot to finish of the sentence. It should be:

"ample doubt" about his readiness to lead the nation in the direction which we the money grubbing, stone hearted, lead headed, hard line conservitive classists want it to go."

Which is straight to hell in you choice of woven cane carrying implement as far as I'm concerned.

Their hypocracy boggles the mind!

Sorry, Tòiseach Corvaal, the Danny Kaye reference was merely to my initial reaction the phrase it follows, though I meant nothing rude to the poster. I hope my main point was clear. A vote for an amendment does not necessarily qualify as a vote for a proposition.

As to your points I have not doubts. Change the last phrase and it applies to either party.
