Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: gnu Date: 29 Mar 04 - 07:18 AM I have tried to check in on youse guys every now and then but I have little time for anything except helping to get my buddy's new company off the ground. I temporarily suspended my own company's operations in favour of something new and exciting.... I am now a certified HOSER. Yup, I can hose anything. AC, air, hydraulic, industrial, suction, even garden hose. As well, I am the manager, book keeper, office clerk, inventory clerk, secretary - well, you get the picture. Unfortunately, we only opened the doors in mid-December, due to unforseen assholes, and we have just endured the worst three and a half months seen by business in this area since the Thirties. Cash flow is such that we may not get off the ground. Indeed, we may get buried at month end. The good news is that we have learned a great deal and may be able to re-open with a new backer, if our supplier is willing to give us a break. This time, we'll be watching our backs a little more closely. Drink lots of cold water and walk slow, eh, ya hosers. |

Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: gnu Date: 11 Dec 04 - 11:04 AM Hey Kendall, ya ol' rock piler !!! I been lookin' fer snakes ! Well, actually, the business my buddy and I started took a dump when the main investor took a heart attack and cut off further funding when we had half of the stock required to service our customers. We valiantly tried to keep it going but had to find a new investor. The new investor bought everything outright, kept my buddy to run the shop, brought in his own management, and let me go mid-summer because (and rightly so) I don't speak French well enough to serve those who can't (or don't want to) speak Anglais. Unlike my buddy, I had no shares in the original company so I had no bargaining power for staying on. At least I still have my Hoser Certification (diploma and all), even though it cost me a pretty penny in the end. And, I did learn a lot about running a retail / manufacturing business. I had closed my engineering business last December, hence no internet at home, and decided to wait until I closed the camp for the winter to get back on the net. Hey, you asked ! Hope all is well with you. Merry Ho Ho. |

Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 17 Dec 19 - 03:33 PM all right: so Gnu isn't online because he has other priorities right now. I can live with that. Maybe someone in touch with him could say something reassuring? Our own Stilly River Sage has recently confirmed that Gnu was discharged from hospital after a lengthy stay and is at home with his family supporting him. Thanks everyone. |

Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 19 Dec 19 - 02:21 PM NOTHING NEW -- nothing to look at in this post unless you are just now tuning in. This is re-iteration, nothing remotely new unless you are a Mudcatter who rarely checks in and thus misses updates. Summary: when the weather was still warm, the death of Gnu's mother took place this year (he has been her carer for several years during her final illness). The funeral for Gnu's mother seems to have occurred very close in time to the injury, reportedly from a fall, that put Gnu in hospital for several weeks. Stilly River Sage reported that Gnu had to order new eyeglasses. Eventually Gnu came home from the hospital. The word wheelchair has been mentioned. To be continued, we sincerely hope. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: gnu Date: 23 Dec 19 - 10:34 AM Mum passed Sept 23. I went into hospital Sept 25 for 44 days. The double vision was blamed on the left cataract replacement 'growing something' which will have to be removed with laser surgery. But that was just to kick me out. I am still weak and unsteady and require a walking aid - cane, rollator, walls or whatever. BUT, I have a physically disabled placard for my car, so the cold and snow don't bother me much. Just miss having a shower and freshly laundered clothes (the basement stairs have a railing built by garden gnomes). 44 days in hop - lots of grub; little exercise. Kept up the appetite with little exercise when I got home, so, overall, I gained a whole pound! Re my absence, whilst in hospital, I was in a large three bed room with roommates that, well, an example will explain. Buddy next was having another drug induced episode and woke me. When I reached for my watch (why, I don't know), I spied eyes watching me... at bed height. My other roomy had crawled (leg amputated below left knee) to my bedside and was keeping an eye on me. BUT, I found North Woods Law on the TV in the kitchen/TV room, which I can relate to much better than Cops as I am The Emperor's Royal Game Warden. I even watched Family Feud once for about a minute. So, things are getting better. Much too slowly for my liking, but better. |

Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: Bill D Date: 26 Dec 19 - 04:13 PM Glad to see you here.... and there. We have no doubts you will keep on keeping on. ? A crazy stair railing is always a hassle. You'll know when it's safe. Take care! |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: ChanteyLass Date: 26 Dec 19 - 05:24 PM Hello, Gnu! 44 days is longer than Noah's Flood! Sorry about your mother. Welcome back home and welcome back to Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 26 Dec 19 - 07:45 PM it was down to the stair railing?? bummer ... |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: Rapparee Date: 26 Dec 19 - 08:31 PM Yeah, I've had stairs problems myself. No stair rail at all when we moved in; since then a hospital-quality stair rail has been installed, as have outside railing to the front door, various grab bars inside, and so on. Yesterday a toilet paper roll holder broke, so I have to install a new one (cost nearly USD 25.00, I could just hang it from a string but there would be Objections). Hang in there, gnu. You'll be running around again before you know it, and likely before you're actually ready. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 26 Dec 19 - 08:42 PM Rapparee, could you get one of those holders that stands on its own little pedestal and isn't stuck in/onto the wall? |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Dec 19 - 08:52 PM Stairs are a problem here also - they are to be avoided for now. Surgery is scheduled in a few weeks for a knee replacement. I will enter my Bionic Woman phase at that time. |

Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: EBarnacle Date: 30 Dec 19 - 03:03 PM SRS, I had both knees replaced several years ago. I found that by going beyond the levels recommended by the PT people, my rehab was much stronger and ultimately less painful than expected. I have been hearing and feeling ominous crackings and popping from my right shoulder. As my doctor ordered me to stop playing my concertina because of deterioration in said shoulder several years ago, I have been waiting for the deterioration to reach the point where they would be willing to do the job so I can resume playing. I am not sure whether I am eager or anxious. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 Dec 19 - 03:42 PM Thanks for the insight! I'm making a point of getting in more walking and will be at the gym doing strengthening exercises to help the recovery along, this was advised by the doctor. They have a lot of PT built into the recovery as well (but I had probably better warn them about the dogs. . . ) |

Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: Rapparee Date: 01 Jan 20 - 06:29 PM After much trouble (it's in a tight space) and buying a new cordless drill, I gott 'er done! Installing a $20 item only cost me an addition $160. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 01 Jan 20 - 07:57 PM mmmmmmmmm. I think you should have got a little pedestal for the toilet paper. Would have been cheaper. |

Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: gnu Date: 09 Jan 20 - 08:36 AM Well, I tackled the stairs, and the stairs tackled me. I HAD to go down for swipe. It went okay. The next day, I went after laundry... down and up about six times. My legs are exceedingly sore, and my left foot and ankle are swollen (swelling from inactivity due to the pain). Getting better far too slowly... almost chair-bound for the past three days with my left leg propped up half of the time. But... I have clean laundry. >;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 09 Jan 20 - 12:33 PM Clean laundry is half the battle. Good on your long-suffering feets for getting you down there and back. |

Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: ChanteyLass Date: 10 Jan 20 - 05:57 PM Giving up stairs is why I go to the laundromat. I hope you next up-and-down-down trips are much easier. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 19 Jan 20 - 07:35 PM A lot of precipitation blew East this past week and weekend. Southeastern Massachusetts didn't get all that much -- a dusting of very powdery snow -- but I hear it was a different story well to our north. Gnu? I hope you don't have a heck of a lot of snow and ice to shovel ... |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 19 Jan 20 - 11:38 PM Gnu, on Facebook you posted some photos of mighty deep snow. Do you keep a snow shovel or ice ax in the house to chip your way through to the outside? Or maybe have an escape hatch from up in the attic? |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 22 Jan 20 - 11:12 AM There's a big wad of upper-atmospheric water sloshing over the top of us this mid-week, and it seems to always head north and east in it's travels. I predict more of the white stuff at your abode in a couple of days. Sorry about that. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 23 Jan 20 - 02:35 PM Sheesh. The man could be buried alive under all that snow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: gnu Date: 24 Jan 20 - 10:54 AM Not bad here yet. I live in Southeastern New Brunswick, 36m above sea level on a coastal plain just east of the Appalation Mountains. It can get very bad if a Nor'easter stalls when it comes up the Bay of Fundy to the isthmus between New NB and Nova Scotia. That's been a threat for many years. Now it's ice storms, one of which may develop this coming weekend. But, it's been a great winter here so far. Thanks for the concerns. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 24 Jan 20 - 02:01 PM Thanks for telling us, gnu. Here's hoping you escape the ice, we know you won't escape the storm system itself. But down here, south of New Hampshire, they're talking rain and the threat of flooding. Now, if we could only ship this moisture off to Australia ... |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 26 Jan 20 - 12:24 PM Gnu, it looks from the radar map at the weather pages as though New Brunswick is getting pounded in this storm. Please let us know you got through it when you can. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 27 Jan 20 - 07:09 PM gnu? you survive the weather up there? |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: keberoxu Date: 18 Dec 20 - 08:36 PM How about that nor'easter with all the snow ... did the snow get to your area as well? |
Subject: RE: BS: Gnews about Gnu? From: Rapparee Date: 19 Dec 20 - 09:34 PM Poor gnu. Snowbound in Moncton. Nothing to eat or drink except what's in the house and/or freezer and/or he can get at the store. Nothing but electric power and stuff. Perhaps he'll be rescued by a helicopter and taken somewhere safe and warm, like Baffin Island. |
