Subject: RE: lyrics wanted From: Teru Date: 06 Oct 98 - 08:10 AM We had a lot of discussion about the first song last year. It's not "The lament of the Irish IMMIGRANT", but "The lament of the Irish EMIGRANT". Find out "The Irish Emigrant / Grammar" in the FORUM SEARCH. Regards Teru (of Japan) |
Subject: RE: lyrics wanted From: Robert Date: 07 Oct 98 - 01:56 PM Hello Teru [of Japan]: Thanx for your response. I believe we are both correct. " The Lament of the Irish Emigrant[Immigrant]" is known and recorded by both titles, depending upon which shore you are standing on. "Emigrant" as sung by an Irishman about to leave his homeland, immigrant as sung by us Canadians witnessing the mass exodus of Irish people who landed upon our shores and called this place home. Thanx again. |
Subject: RE: lyrics wanted From: Teru Date: 07 Oct 98 - 07:48 PM Robert, Yes, you are "lexicologically" right. However, the original poem was written by Lady Dufferin as "Lament of the Irish Emigrant". I stand on neither shore, anyway. Regards Teru |
Subject: RE: lyrics wanted From: Robert Date: 07 Oct 98 - 09:38 PM Teru: Thanx again. I was familiar with Lady [and Lord] Dufferin and the fact that she had penned the poem, but I was not able to find a complete version until just recently. I actually live about 2 miles north of a county named for her husband. Being of Irish decent and a kitchen musician, I have always enjoyed traditional music. Lately I find myself searching for more tunes to learn. Best regards Robert |
