Subject: RE: Jack Hudson (singer from Derbyshire) From: burntstump Date: 02 Mar 05 - 11:41 AM Come on who recorded Geronimos Cadillac? |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson (singer from Derbyshire) From: burntstump Date: 26 Feb 05 - 06:16 AM Not heard Geronimo's Cadillac for years, what was the name of the female singer who had some success with it? |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson (singer from Derbyshire) From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 26 Feb 05 - 03:32 AM Some of us know already, fella! :-) Working hard on whipping up a good crowd, can't wait to hear The Master again. BTW, heard Dick Gaughan's version of 'Geronimo's Cadillac' on steam radio the other night - they should have played Jack's vastly superior recording. Still a great song though, no matter who's doing it. IMHO. S:0) |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson (singer from Derbyshire) From: burntstump Date: 26 Feb 05 - 03:26 AM Did I mention Jack is playing Gainsborough Folk Club on the 1st April |

Subject: RE: Jack Hudson (singer from Derbyshire) From: GUEST,Mems Date: 27 Jan 05 - 02:23 AM I believe I met Jack some 30 years ago when he was playing in Fort William, Scotland. My sister and I were holidaying from Australia and were in Fort William for the two weeks he played there. We got to know him pretty well but have not stayed in touch. I recently came across a photo of us together. I'd love to contact him. Any suggestions? |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson (singer from Derbyshire) From: Leadfingers Date: 22 Sep 04 - 02:45 PM And I will add a post just for the hell of it - gettin as sad as some of the 'Ullites |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson (singer from Derbyshire) From: Leadfingers Date: 22 Sep 04 - 02:44 PM Jack Hudson is indeed a superb performer ,but doesnt get down my way often enough . I cant afford to travel silly distances just to help fill a venue for another artist though . |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Rasener Date: 22 Sep 04 - 02:19 PM I seem to remember something about that Wilbyhillbilly. If I remember rightly, katlaughing was so complimentary about your work. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: wilbyhillbilly Date: 22 Sep 04 - 02:07 PM I can do tapes too, in fact I cleaned and transferred one recently for katlaughing, it was of her dad, G.L. "Sparky" HUDSON, talk about coincidences. It would be a very interesting project if it gets off the ground. whb |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: burntstump Date: 22 Sep 04 - 01:37 PM I have 3 of Jacks albums on vinyl all in very good nick. Also live tapes from my old folk club recorded in the 70s. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Rasener Date: 22 Sep 04 - 10:12 AM You are booked WLD. It is accoustic. So you will be able to leave them all behind. If people could hear you at Tattershall, they will be able to hear you at MRFC. The only time amplification is needed is when I book an artist who is singing all the time professionally, and if they say they want amplification, then I allow it. e.g. Bob Fox & Vin Garbutt. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 22 Sep 04 - 09:54 AM Same with guitars, WLD!! :0) |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Big Al Whittle Date: 22 Sep 04 - 07:19 AM why thank you whb. i will let Jack know very soon. perhaps he has got all his recordings. I believe I have one of his albums in my loft.( The arm fell off my dansette several months ago!) Thanks for the offer of the floor spot villan - March 11th goes in my diary! I know you said it's a very small room. i have a couple of baby p.a's- Fender Passport jobs the 150 watt and the 250 watt jobbos. Would you like that, or my weapon of choice is a 500 watt Peavey thing - which isn't large. However if you fee they are superfluous I will understand. Don't ask how I got submerged in all this electronica. Its like pornography (they tell me) buy one and you just can't stop yourself...... |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: wilbyhillbilly Date: 21 Sep 04 - 03:06 PM "It's a shame, too, that his old albums aren't available any longer. Great performances of excellent songs lost for ever" Why should they be, there must be hundreds of people out there with vinyl albums, why can,t someone get permission off Jack to allow them to be transferred to CDs and then decide what to do. I would gladly do the transferring at zero cost (see vinyltransfer.me.uk) can't do blue clicky things, and this is not an advert for my services, just letting you know this is a genuine offer. Just a thought anyway. whb. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 21 Sep 04 - 12:08 PM Yep, you're right WLD. And, as often happens with great singers, Jack's voice has improved with the years - back in 1970 I'd never have believed it could get any better but it certainly has, and how! Perhaps if he was a 20-year-old, pretty-boy, pale-pink Gareth Gates wannabe he'd have more luck.....................?? It's a shame, too, that his old albums aren't available any longer. Great performances of excellent songs lost for ever. SJ :0) |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Rasener Date: 21 Sep 04 - 12:06 PM Well I hope you are going to do a 20 minute floorspot when Jack comes to Market Rasen Folk Club on March the 11th 2005 - weelittledrummer, as well as Strollin' Johnny. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Big Al Whittle Date: 21 Sep 04 - 12:01 PM I've wondered about this. It seems very strange, doesn't it. After all, you and I John we're not bad guitarists - but guitar playing is something you can put there if you work at it. A voice like Jack's though - its a once in a generation thing. I really think there are a lot of people who aren't picking up their responsibilities in the media etc. and bringing this fine artist to the forefront. In a few years there will be diminishment of those great powers. Its like we had a Pavarotti or a Paul Robeson in this country and we thought no sod it, we'll put the best of the Smurfs on tonight AGAIN |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 20 Sep 04 - 12:28 PM You're so right CdM, he's a great guy and a great performer. Why don't a few more people wake up to him? |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Capo da Monty Date: 20 Sep 04 - 10:44 AM Hi JH fans! Just thought this thread ought to come out again. I shall be giving an airing(in darkest Dorset) to a couple of the GREAT MAN's songs.. "When will you call again.." & "Driftwood and Nails" ..when I do a support spot for Vin Garbutt(6 Nov Wimborne Acoustic club)and Jez Lowe & The Bad Pennies (14 Nov Fifehead Magdalen Village Hall. Regards to one and all. CdM |

Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Rasener Date: 28 Jul 04 - 05:28 PM Mayday mayday. Blackmail Blackmail Entrance price just been doubled to pay Strollin' Johnny. Travelling Audience won't like that. LMAO |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 28 Jul 04 - 05:22 PM Typical of a non-performer to criticise a performer for forgetting one small detail during a stressful live radio program. Friday's fee just doubled! :0) :0) Johnny (ROFL) |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Rasener Date: 28 Jul 04 - 05:04 PM Yes but you got 0 out of 10 for not saying that he was coming to Market Rasen Folk Club :-) |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 28 Jul 04 - 04:53 PM I was very proud to sing Jack's song "Driftwood and Nails" on BBC Radio Lincolnshire's Folk Program tonight. Not as good as Jack does it, but it gave me the chance to give him a plug! J :0) |
